After 8382 in a recent Building Windows 8 blogpost, Microsoft showed 8383 in the TechEd video 'Modernizing Your Datacenter'.

I'm thinking I'll launch a thread separately from this regarding the ability to upgrade Windows CP 8250 to Windows RP 8400.

http://minus.com/mqUnthqqi/

Thoughts since this is from another forum I'm on that I made cause I didn't want to wipe everything?

Would there be any actual want for this?

Stuff like that has happened before, I do believe this is a screenshot of 8175 that managed to sneak into the Windows Store:

Well, we already known this build, but a Windows RT picture of it is not wrong :).

I'm guessing at this stage, the new theme is only in fbl_uex then? Seems very late for something that's not insignificant. I expected it to be in winmain, just disabled.

Keep in mind that this is a post-RC build. I'm guessing here but I think it's likely the new theme is already in winmain at this point.

Isn't that transparent? Did they use Release Preview in the event?

PS. Does RT contain the full desktop side of Windows as well, just without Win32? But with Explorer, normal Control Panel etc.

As far as I know, Windows RT is nothing more than Windows 8 on ARM, even the Win32 subsystem is there though the SDK prevents compiling desktop apps unless you have a certain flag set at compile time.

I mean, if the Win32 subsystem wasn't there, how would stuff like Windows Explorer or Office 2013 run on Windows RT?

Hm, I guess 31 builds allows for a fair amount of change. It still seems really late for a theme change, I wonder if we'll see anything else with RTM.

Ah ok. Thats good then, so Windows RT just blocks some programs from using the Win32 system, now I get it.

This is an unfortunate fact since it forces the other software vendors to cater to MS.

Regarding Windows 8 the RTM is set for sometime in July. That is the actual build month however not the release month meaning its built just not released to the public so that everyone is ready for it.

I don't see why that even if we can't use the official compilers for WinRT we can't use MinGW. The official compilers may work anyway, I'm not expecting Visual Studio to easily let you mind.

Because Windows RT won't run x86 compiled apps and you can't port any desktop software to Windows RT; the Microsoft C/C++ Compiler won't let you do that.

I know, I meant cross compiling, if it runs Office and other native applications, unless they added some stupid signing scheme, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to make our own PE binaries.

Yeah, as far as I know, the only "signing" check to run ARM-compiled desktop apps is to feed a certain flag to the C compiler at compile time.

Good job. Starting from 8500 to ... Microsoft is starting to make sense. Continue. I like the concept.
