Anyone notice that it says "To be filled by OEM" under one field there? Is that an Apple thing or something set by one of the kexts\system definitions?

Edit: That's the serial number field...interesting.

Edit 2: That's from no system definition. Was Apple planning to allow other companies to make macs or did they just put that there as a place holder for internal dev machines? Interesting.

I'm using it on a PC, so now it makes sense, doesn't it. The "To be filled by OEM" thing is there, because I bought my motherboard separately (my PC is self-built), and it's an MSI.

I was just thinking it's strange that Apple would put "To be filled by OEM" instead of just having it blank. I was aware you were using a hackintosh as it just said "Mac".

Oh. Well, actually that IS a serial number of my motherboard, it displays exact the same on Windows and Linux. Not sure why would MSI not fill it, though I can get my real serial number by looking at the mobo case though.

For those moments in life when two screens get restrictive:

Image

I stole a 1360x768 17" lying around - had to do some 720p recording while I was using the other two monitors.

I really dont get why one would need more than 1 monitor. Sure, if you're photoshopping 2-3 images at once or getting alot of work done, but other than that I dont really see a point...

For example when you are developing a website on a monitor you can code while on the other refresh the page and see how is it looking or chat while browsing the web or even translating a document (Just a few examples).

Developers gave browsers tabs and MS did give Windows 7 snap for a reason, so I think you could do just as much on a single monitor than on multiple. Besides, I dont wanna constantly be moving my pointer from monitor to monitor and back again.

If you're doing development work, tabs are annoying to work with. Switching around from code to preview is just plain annoying. Aero Snap is also not good for developers because each window takes up about half of the screen. Just look at this:

Look at how small the code editor is. I know you can shrink other objects but if I'm coding, I want the development environment to use all the screen space.

So yeah, having two or three monitors is quite practical.

Just think of the aspect ratio when using snap, if you have a 16:10 screen you get 4:5, 16:9 - 8:9, 4:3 - 2:3.

Unless you have a very high resolution it's not comfortable using a 683x1024 space for an app (in my case) it's not useful. Sure it's useful for copying files but not even for watching videos on youtube. Also tabs are not better in anything, it's like if you had a lot of windows, except that the clutter is most times "maximized" on the app rather than on the desktop, where it could be maximized too. You still have to switch between them in order to get access to your data.

And moving the pointer back and forth is something you get used to it's even easier when you have 2 monitors that are equal.

An different point of view for tabs, I don't agree all of what's exposed here but it's still an interesting point of view: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/04/why-tabs-must-die/

Well, the snap feature might not be too bad on an IBM T220\T221, AKA 3840x2400 screen res. I'm sure you could tile 4 windows onto that and have them all in a 960x600 work area, not a great amount but hey, it's not too bad considering you can do 4 of those on one display with no overlapping.

I also find dual monitors better as you can stick a web browser with instructions for monitor on the one (always has to be right for me) and work on the object on the other monitor. Also easier for having photoshop and illustrator open at once, but not many people use both, unless you're me and want to use up a lot of ram :P.

If only Vista would work on my laptop, but AMD won't make APU video drivers for Vista. :(

Well, my opinion is only from my point of view, since I have only used more than one monitor once. (when I plugged in a CRT and used both screens for the hell of it)
