I've created this thread to discuss the next public release of Windows 8: The Release Candidate. (It's less than 2 weeks away! Woohoo!)

First, i really liked the new "non-glass" interface. In my opinion, this will make the system much faster and lightweight.

For those who don't know what i'm talking about, take a look here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012 ... ience.aspx

It's a huge post, but at the end of the page, you can see an OFFICIAL screenshot from the Release Preview. (Well, i believe it's just an early build of the RP.)

ehm...

While a few of these visual changes are hinted at in the upcoming Release Preview, most of them will not yet be publicly available. You’ll see them all in the final release of Windows 8!

I think we're going to talk about all but the new desktop theme in this thread. *hehe*
The screenshot is not from an early build of the Release Preview, I guess Release Preview is developed in parallel to the newer Windows 8 builds.

Except in real world usage, it won't make anything lighter. Aero is handled via GPU and makes absolutely zero difference - and in fact sometimes performs *better* than non Aero - to, for example, framerates in games. None. Aero is not a taxing thing. Hell this netbook has it enabled right now and disabling it makes zero difference.

Oh, okay. You didn't quote that part of the post to begin with so I thought you mixed up threads. Sorry :)

Here's something interesting i've found...

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 23bff5adea

Notice what is written under "More Microsoft Resources".

Here's a screenshot:

Now, is that some kind of hint? (Just like as they did with the Betta fish on Bing.com)

More likely it's just a case of "get all the links working before the product releases so things will be ready by then."

Still interesting. Hasn't the release been set to the first week of June? If so only a week to go!

I think the download speed for non-premium users at xunlei is deliberately limited. I get a rather low speed as well.

Mine just said completed and the ISO ended at 7.92MB, not sure if its just a bad connection that killed it or the ISO is really that size

It mounts with a load of normal setup files inside but all next to no files size

Someone on PCBeta has already finished downloading, so that's most probably due to throttling if you end at 8MB. Xunlei Kuaichuan is really a crap I have to say.

Same here - about a 3 day time frame to complete.

If you do get this thing downloaded, it'll be useless unless you can read Chinese - this isn't the en-US version.

Doubt I`ll get it downloaded, it got further this time but still failed

From what I could translate on win8china, it has English and Chinese languages

This is my progress so far

Wondering if a Chinese proxy would give better speeds

What's your hash and size of the image? Have you checked? People in PCBeta now have different ones.

Mine never completed so it will be different, twice I've ended up with just over 7MB ISOs

EDIT - The second one was 18MB

3rd attempt failed.

Think we're going to have to wait for someone in China to upload it somewhere decent
