Forum rules


Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

I'm making a big Youtube video about Chicago, all about it. I have all from 56 to... June Test Release. But i would even like Chicago 40. Is it available anywhere?

You can't get Chicago build 40 anywhere. Not unless the people who have it is going to share it, and that's not likely.

Hm? Which version? There were two floating around. One a fake build released on YouTube and one made up of actual 40 files. The one with 40 files...was that confirmed yet?

Both are fake/modified AFAIK. The second one you're asking about only has some files from 40 added into 56...

There were two fake versions of Chicago 40? The only one I know about and am referring to is the one that was released on that other beta/abandonware site. I'll have to look for that fake Chicago 40 on YouTube.

A fake one is reviewed by a YT user called Gabriel37451. He even released a download (sadly on megaupload).

I doubt its real, we haven't heard from any publication about CHICAGO before summer 93.

How does this relate to the build itself? Also, development has definetly started before anyone (besides MS) knew about it, so...

I meant that Chicago was a bit of a surprise, in my opinion they started at the same time as WfW dev cycle because wfw 3.11 contains new VXD drivers seen again in chicago.
Builds 56 and 58s were after Milestone 3,it was stated somewere.
Dr. Dobbs Journal had an article in 1993 comparing VXDs between 3.x and 4.0 (Chicago) where they not published the UI look and said testers needed to sign a NDA.

Early builds of Chicago do not have network features from wfw3.11 (as shown in the antitrust docs).. and if i may reference an unverified screenshot, the about windows screenshot of build 34 does not have any seen network icons in control panel.
