I was like "idk what to do aaaaaaaa" so I just done computers as a subject, apparently it'll get me higher marks for discussing computers (my teacher said that)

I'm going to talk about why I like computers (I don't even know! xD I just like messing around with them, trying new things), parts of a computer, famous computers, etc.
I won't talk about what my class does with their computers (And the school's computers), looking up porn on a proxy. >_>

I'm also thinking on showing danooct1's CIH virus video, considering I have to talk about parts of a computer, and I'll explain the mobo and the BIOS (in super-duper-ultra simple form)

I was going to consider doing My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, considering its brony fanbase, but my school is too immature to realise that watching a show doesn't make you a homosexual, your sexual preference does.

Also, I'll need BA's help.
I need a list of well known/"famous" computers. I've got Commodore 64 on the list. What else?

Talk about the Apple 1 and the first Mac,the first commercially successful computer.

If I had to do that presentation,I would just go on and on about the potential of computers and their future appliances.Say that the computer isn't just "Windows and start menu and Internet",it's a whole lot more than that.Talk to them about places where computers are and they didn't even think they existed there (Like in washing machines,Smart TVs,cars and stuff like that).

Never thought about that. Thanks.

Hmm!I just thought about another one,the Raspberry Pi.The first really affordable PC.Also, talk about programming languages ad their evolution, but don't go into detail, because then, they'll all be like "Wut?".Mention the "IBM Compatible" standart, floppies and why their hard disk has the letter C and say what A and B were for, mention Cray,IBM's and NASA's supercomputers and say from where does the term "computer bug" come from.

This link can help:

"computers" is just such a broad topic, that you'll have a hard time covering enough aspects to give a round overview about the topic.
and no, Brony-stuff does not have anything to do with computers, it's an internet-meme

Do stuff on Windows. Like it's history and such.

This is a good piece of advice.
If your knowledge of computers is actually just about personal computers, then talk about them.
Doing this your presentation would be easier for you because you'd be talking about something you really know and also it'd avoid you to mess with something that's just too broad for a simple presentation.
So, history of PCs and basics on how they work, then a brief look at the future of personal computing.

Ah, just my 2 cents on ponies.
Probably back in my school days I'd have thought it's gay to make a pony-themed presentation too.
Now I'd more likely think it just makes no sense to do such a presentation: I couldn't care less if you like ponies, I'd just want to see something about the subject you're talking about.
Go for some clean and professional-looking style. ;)

You should read it again.
I meant that I was going to be talking about My Little Pony, but considering the school I'm at, I decided not to, and go for computers.

I wouldn't do a My Little Pony speech for any school or college.
In fact, it's just a cartoon series.

Try reading what he's posted twice. He's not going to do a presentation on My Little Pony for his school.

Back on topic, kthxbai.

I know, but he said he was going to at first. So I expressed my opinion.

Alright then, we've got that straight.

As for what companies to present, here's some thoughts:
  • IBM - Introduced the PC as we know the term today
  • Microsoft - Wrote their own BASIC in the 70s and then went on to become what they are today through IBM
  • Apple - We all hate them but they still brought the GUI to the average home consumer

Talk about how before windows and mac how you had to type commands into a computer, and bring a laptop or something that has virtualbox to show them DOS. You could also install lynx and show how the internet looks on dos.

Except that Lynx is primarily a *nix program and using the Internet in MS-DOS with early stuff like DOSLynx is a pain to get set up.

Just do a presentation on Windows, its history and its up and downs. Talk about the beta releases like Neptune, Whistler and Longhorn, talk about Windows 8. Actually you could really impress people if you talk about Whistler and stuff. Because ALOT of computers still have Windows XP, and they would maybe be interested that Whistler was XP.

Where do you want to go today?

All Microsoft operating systems!
Yes, a lot of systems are still running at least some version of Windows NT 5 (remember that Windows NT 5 is basically either Windows 2000, and/or Windows XP or even Windows Server 2003).

I'm starting to feel old, because I remember when Windows with Multimedia Extensions 1.0 (version 3.00a and Windows 3.1 were the decade old operating systems. Windows NT 3.1 came next, then Windows NT 3.5, Windows NT 3.51, and Windows 95. And from Windows 95 onwards were basically the "new", or "modern" versions of Windows (such as Windows 95 itself, especially Windows 95 OSR 2.x, then, Windows NT 4.0, then Windows 98/Windows 98 Second Edition, and finally, the newest versions - Windows 2000, Windows Me (Millenium Edition), and Windows XP).

Back then, twenty years ago referred to the introduction of the IBM PC! Now, you still see some businesses using DOS and Windows 3.1 of all things (even Canada, a developed nation as virtually all educated people know, still uses DOS on its government machines from what I heard).

As for Windows 8, I will surely be awaiting its release, as I have been for months now, if not even an entire year. If it was me, and I was talking about Windows 8 during the presentation, I would present a live test environment (basically, a PC specifically dedicated to that one purpose) for people to evaluate Windows 8 itself, just to see how they would do with using it. I would just bring a system (preferably some sort of a portable system) with the latest available Windows 8 build installed on it, and would set it up somewhere for people to test out the new version of Windows, similar to what CompUSA did at one point for Windows XP.
