Turn drop shadows on is the best method. Advanced options on the system properties box, should be in the list of checkboxes on the performance options.

Speaking of desktops, everytime i post mine, but icons/shortcuts are organized by a program called fences. I would not recommend this program because I really do have a [censored] load of stuff on my desktop, and when fences crashes, ALL of the icons come out, it looks like a disaster.

Well,it might crash on sometimes and make it look like a disaster, but I recommend it if you have a ton of icons on the desktop. My uncle's PCs (who's a teacher) have tons and tons of icons, and when I organized their desktops with Fences,he was delighted.

Yes, I was delighted also, but when you have so much icons you can't afford for fences to crash. You loose so much organization when that happens.

Thanks Andy.
Edit:
Slightly modified, now my background is in full size and my desktop is messy.

My netbook. It's Ubuntu only (just upgraded to 12.04),and I'm very satisfied with it.It runs better than ever and it also runs Minecraft nicely with only 1GB of RAM.
