could be DR1, the calendar says December 1983.
The site says that the screens are from the January 1984 issue of PC World. But the calendar does say December 1983. But wasn't the Windows (or Interface Manager) alpha shown at COMDEX November 1983 and in BYTE Magazine December 1983 much different? Here is a screenshot of that:

Me too... For comparison, here is a screenshot of DR5 with some of the included accessories running.
hmmm, the build from January 1984 and DR5 don't seem too different, but still I would love to have that build from January 1984.
The January 1984/December 1983 build (or a similar build) was mentioned in the BYTE Magazine December 1983 issue. The below text is from that article.
Quote:
(In fact, Microsoft’s own standard window has changed since these photos were taken. The latest version provides a question mark on the right part of the title bar. Selecting the question mark brings help information. If you put the cursor on the title itself, it is replaced by little pictures that represent what you can do with the window. The new version also includes a status line at the top of the screen and an area for icons at the bottom.)
So Windows was already like that by the time that article was written.

Hmmm, they look so old, I don't even know how am I gonna emulate the older builds of Windows 1.0 (I know there is an emulator for the Beta build but I forgot the name.), wonder when will this even leak. Some screenshot's looks like from the 40's.

You can run DR5 an XT or AT (286) compatible and DOS 2.x or 3.x according to MS but you need it correctly emulated,it dislikes newer hardware.
I didnt get it to run on many setups, this forum recommends PCEM. DR5 starts by executing kernel.exe and is installed using a batch script. DR5 does supply an SDK and tools but is lacking C compiler and proper documentation. That means we can write own apps(they called GUI programs Applications then).

We assume it's from December 83 because of the date shown on the calendar app on one photo. Other than that, no evidence about what exactly this is or when it's from...

Well, if this is the build that you're talking about, then is there any evidence that this was actually known as Development Release 1?

http://www.guidebookgallery.org/article ... rainbow100 - interface manager on DEC rainbow 100, proves that such a compile exists. I wonder if Interface Manager for RM Nimbus PC-186 exists, I know a pre-beta was demo'd at BETT in 1984, or 1985, and i know a beta of win 1.0 for the PC-186 was widely distributed among schools..
