Finally got ram off ebay for my macintosh se fdhd. But I don't have a long enough torx to reach behind the handle part. Went to two best hardware, one home depot, and one lowes, nobody have a long enough torx. Or single for that matter. Only kits. And really small bits. But on bits long enough or one with a handle like foot or foot and a half. I even tried a local auto parts store and no luck. Arrgh.

I have no idea where you are located but if you are somewhere near an Orchard Supply and Hardware (not sure if they are USA wide, but they are around here), they have a 15? in one screw driver with a gazillion bits stored in the handle and it has an extending shaft.

I paid $8 for mine and it's what I used for opening my Mac Plus systems, cost $8 but to me it's worth it has it has everything from a T-2 to a T-15 and then a couple Philips and flat head bits.

That looks like it could work…

Of course, I don't use a Torx screwdriver for those really deep ones… I use a long flathead…

I never thought about that. The flt head that is. But the downside is you don't get as firm grip. So it won't tighten too much. But it might be better since it won't over tighten. So I'll goto back to the hardware store tomorrow and see.

From what I read, you need a T-15 Torx.

Yes but finkmacunix is totally right. You can wedge a long flat screw driver into one of the lines of the torx part. Worked for my bottom screws.

I found the solution at my local ace hardware. No ebay needed. More expensive but not much and way more compact. Got a 3 and a 1/2 inch torx bit and then attached it to my long extender. The extender is too thick to fit into the holes under the handles on the SE. But the 3 and 1/2" torx is just barely long enough to fit into the holes. And then the extender holder stays outside of the holes and lets me loosen the screws.

Now just have to figure out how to add the ram and upload soome pics here.
