Hi. I trying install today Internet Explorer 4.0 & 5.01 on Windows For Workgroup 3.11 but when I try it it says that my machine got less than 4 MB, but in real got 80 MB + virtual pagefile. Is there any trick to fix it ? mem.exe show that I got something like 1 MB low memory... Thanks all in advance.

Maybe you should try to replace the himem.sys loaded in the config.sys; e.g. from Windows 98, 95 etc. or try to install windows upon a better DOS environment such as MS-DOS 6.22. Mem.exe indicates that my boot-up disk of DOS 7.1 can recognize all my 3GB memory as the extended memory (XMS).

I'll will try, but now I have other Windows on testing.

Windows 3.1x doesn't like MS DOS 7+. It requires patching to work.

That's right. Windows 3.11 certainly refuses to work on my computer with such a "luxury" memory for it. I just want to show how powerful himem.sys can be. But paul1678 has only 80MB memory. The patches need not be applied for only 80MB, as the case in my qemu virtual machine. (After starts Windows 3.11 upon MS-DOS 7.1, running mem.exe from command prompt inside Windows reports 64MB memory in total, while actually 80MB is assigned to the virtual machine, and MS-DOS can redetect the 80MB RAM again after I exits Windows.)

No, the patch needs to be applied to MS-DOS 7.1's IO.SYS in order for Windows 3.x to be able to run on it in 386 Enhanced mode. Otherwise, IO.SYS will prevent it to run with an error message filling the screen, telling you the Windows version you're trying to run isn't compatible with that version of MS-DOS and to get a compatible version of MS-DOS.
