Consider yourself in the minority then since most of the tech people use 64 bit OS because of the ability to use more memory.

What do you mean? Extract files from an installed and activated 7850 build or from a activator tool? Just asking because I can't find a 'store' folder inside the archive of the 7850 activator tool that I use...

I really don't understand what's wrong with my PC. It runs Windows 8. And, it has NO timebomb watermark in winver. However it has that in the lower left corner. See this:
Image
And, it's not photoshopped, zoom it and see.
The same was for Developer Preview in my PC. :?

@maxtorix What program do you recommend for unpacking/repacking a .wim file?

The most simply with GUI interface, end very user-friendly is Windows 7 Toolkit.

Another question: how to take FULL ownership of the spp folder? I've used the take ownership reg key, but I still get messages saying I don't have enough permission to read/write etc.

Simple guide, download online 10-11 updates from Windows Update in Windows 8 CP, after go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
In search type .cab - this will listed to you all already downloaded updates.
Select all and copy them to folder C:\newupdates.

Use the following guide to integrate them in your Windows 8 CP

1.) Extract ISO to folder C:\W8CP

2.) Make New folder in C: and named offline

Open CMD as administrator and type:

3.)
Quote:
Dism /Mount-Wim /WimFile:C:\W8CP\sources\install.wim /Index:1 /MountDir:C:\offline

4.)
Quote:
Dism /Image:C:\offline /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\newupdates\NAME.CAB

(Where is NAME - write name of cab what you want to install)

And repeat step 4 for every cab that you have inside in C:\newupdates\.

5.)
Quote:
Dism /Unmount-WIM /MountDir:C:\offline /Commit

Use Windows 7 Tookit to Make new bootable BOOT/UEFI Windows 8 CP DVD.

Like an answer:

danielcarlhaffner wrote:
This works on the Developer Preview (I saw very few reasons why it shouldn't). I also removed the Time Bomb from the ISO. Then after disabling Metro I got a very nice OS. First time I tried the Developer Preview for more than a few minutes. Before I found the Developer Preview pretty useless without .Net Framework 3.

danielcarlhaffner write on my topic for enabling features on Windows 8 CP

Thanks for the reply.

But, is there anyway how to convert cab files into MSU. Because I prefer to install updates manually :)

I'll respectively stick with my own methods for taking care of the timebomb/activation.

Removing the timebomb from the beta was quite easy.

I've used the same method of file modification up until build 8250 which I'll leave at that because of the rules. However at this point I changed methods to a very old method (from office 2010 beta I made) of using the registry after find out how broken the activation was. It compromises some of the features but takes care of stuff quite nicely in my mind.

5.) From subfolder tokens (in activator folder) copy folders issuance and ppdlic to spp\tokens in system of your wim (overwrite all files).

Re-build your Wim file.

On next installing you get free from timebomb!

Warning! When you get all work done, there is still one issue.

I recommend after you install your new Windows 8 CP (with pre-removed time bomb), to update, and install all available updates immediately, if you want to use NETFrameworks to install them via Programs and Features -> Windows Components, and when you finish with all that, from services.msc to stop and disable Windows Updates. With this more complete method than previous I'm faced now with another problem 2-hours restart license protection -this will never happen if you don't activate your copy from Computer -> System -> Properties. Yea there will forever stay string: "Windows is not activated"... but that is not important at all. On the end you will still have fully unlocked and workable system.

What do you mean by "Re-build your wim file"? Do you do this when windows 8 cp is installed or before? Please clarify

I extracted the spp file from the install.wim file, and I added the folders into the new spp folder. But, how do I put them back into the install.wim archive?

maxtorix,

I figured out how to extract the spp folder. But, when I boot up the new ISO image in Virtualbox, it asks for a product key, and when I enter the product key, it says that the product key was incorrect. So, how do you bypass that product key screen, and go on to install windows?

This is not a cracking forum but I will give an answer. In order to bypass the product key page for the windows setup you have to modify the winsetup.dll file that is in the ISO image. I will end discussion of this now as it does not conform well with the rules here twinbeta 8. Now moving on to a more lively subject I nuked the sppcore in the registry of the Windows 8 Beta in order to remove the activation quite nice and simple to do. Makes it easy to break the activation and fix it without any restarts when I wish to personalize some of the crappy features :P.

Hello
Ok this trick nukes the Timebomb but also it disables the THEMES on Windows 8 CP, or do I miss something? :x

Used UltraISO to extract Install.Wim then used GimageX to reinsert the SPP folder which can be DL from this Site. Inserted other things as well which shouldn't affect the Installation of Windows 8 CP 8250. :D

Everything's works OK. Except I can't change Themes on desktop. Get only black Solid Color. No Pictures.

Anyone of you Guys has any Idea?
Thanks for an Answer.

Hi there,

All you need to do is download ClassicShell. You will find it on Google.. Actual version is 3.6.5 and it also works on RTM.. have tested it.
