I found this through msdn blogs: http://officeblogs.net/UI/UX09_Harris.pdf
It's a PDF documents which explains the evolution of the Office 2007 Ribbon UI... it's very interesting and beautiful .-. but I was shocked when I saw this: http://www.betaarchive.com/imageupload/ ... .26822.png
It looks really fantastic.. (I love the slate theme)

Someone knows more about this? 8-)

That's just a mockup, look at the time from the sidebar-clock and from the taskbar clock from the pictures inside the pdf file.

What's wrong with the time from the sidebar-clock and the taskbar clock?!? By the way there are pictures that don't seem to be a mockup according to me... but I can't confirm what I said

This doesn't seem to be a mockup (no Cleartype fonts). Could be a Office 2007 alpha.

EDIT: There are also early concept Plex (ReflectiaX) style prototypes.

Very true: some pictures seem to show real build according to me. Nice to see the development on the ribbon!

Mmmm... maybe Microsoft reset Office 12 development while they reset Longhorn development?

Hm, at the taskbar it is 5:01 PM and on the sidebar it is 6:18 PM

It's from a Mix presentation where one of the Office UX guys walked through the ribbon from earliest sketches to end product. The PDF is just the powerpoint slides, you should watch the full video really.

This question has been bugging me since the time the presentation came out: is it possible to create themes for Office 2007 or 2010?

@eggi36 mmm... I didn't noticed that. Yes, that's strange but the problem is that that picture looks like a real copy of Longhorn and that Office 12 too looks real to me :? that's strange...

I guess these are all mockups, just like the Longhorn demos. (I'm not sure though. It's been a long time since I've watched this Mix 08 presentation. My memory may be failing me.)

Of course, the Office team was able to deliver. No wonder Steven Sinofsky is currently at the helm.

That was a pretty good read. I'll admit, I don't really like the Ribbon Interface, but its neat to see how it evolved. They look like mockups, but who knows?

Regarding the time difference: it's simmilar to Neptune's AC concept where you can see a broken image placeholder. This is what concepts are, probably mashed up from various screenshots...

I didn't like the Ribbon Interface in Office 2007, but in 2010 I liked the File Button.

But in Windows 8, I really wish they kept the Regular Explorer.

Also in most of the shots the time on the sidebar and taskbar remain the same.

Almost has a Watercolor-ish look to it. I like the different headings for the Ribbon tabs too, it seems a lot more intuitive than what we got in the final version. Even if this is just a mockup, it looks nice! Makes me wonder what could've been.

I prefer what we got over this, the real version looks a lot cleaner. But it is very interesting to see what they were thinking originally.

This looks so much nicer than the current ribbon UI, despite being a mockup.
