Hey guys. I have recently been having problems with almost all of my GTA games. GTA IV/EFLC and San Andreas work fine. My problem comes with the rest of the series. GTA Vice City and GTA III just refuse to start. I install them and then nothing happens when I click on them. This has happened to me around the time I installed SP1 and is continuing in Win8. I also have a problem with GTA 1, GTA London 1969, GTA London 1961, and GTA 2. They all give me an unsupported resolution error which has only happened in Windows 8. Can anyone tell me how to fix these or give me some suggestions? Thanks a lot.

Try running them in Windows XP Compatibility Mode.

Try Downloading And Installing Windows XP Mode VHD and Windows Virtual PC or Hyper-V
(if you use Windows 8).
hope this will solve your compatiblity issues.

Well, that might work but unless you like playing games at a very low FPS, it's not really an option.

VMware virtual machine products provides 3D Hardware Acceleration support so it can used to play games at a high FPS.

That is, if you've got an enthusiast system with the most powerful everything. Then you might get high FPS in games through virtualization. An average system is not going to virtualize modern 3D games no matter how much hardware acceleration they put into VMWare.

Well my problem is opposite to yours. I can easily launch and play GTA VC and older but SA and IV refuse to launch. Just make sure they are patched to the latest version which usually fixes the problem. If if still does not work play it in compatibility mode with XP Service Pack 2 and run as administrator.

Did you try removing gta_xx.set from the user files folder? This might help if you use the saves/GTA folder from a previous installation.

GTA Vice City and GTA III works fine even on my Windows 7 PC.

You sir, are a genius. I would have never in my entire life thought of that. I am reinstalling the games as I type this. Will reply soon with the results.
