Forum rules

Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

I am requesting the non-checked/debug, non-bundled editions of Windows 8 CP only available on MSDN or Technet. At the moment I don't have any MSDN/Technet access and the x86 and x64 ISOs differ from those available to the public (they are not bundled with the extra applications, so they are a tad bit smaller). The public ones include extra applications (they are tagged on BA with [+Apps]), but we're missing the ones without, which are only available on MSDN/Technet.

I was referring to the "+Apps" releases, not the other releases.

Hmm, I wonder if I could have been mistaken? I am looking through various sources now and I can't find any references to it either. Perhaps that explains the dupes we had on the FTP... I've looked through MSDN and Technet resources now and can only find the "Apps" one and checked builds.

Ah well, I'll keep this thread open until I decide to give up on it, then I'll close it.

Edit: Well, it seems I could have been mistaken. The MSDN releases omit the fact that they come with applications, and they have a different filename, but they are of identical size and checksum. This is what could have confused my naming and make me believe that MS made any "non-app" versions. I wonder why they didn't... MS should get their junk together and try to be more forthcoming with the descriptions and naming imho...

The Win8 CP "Web" Installer .iso is a bit smaller, don't know why though.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/download

File name: Windows.iso
Size: 2.23 GB (2,405,105,664 bytes)
File Hashes (mine):
CRC32: 2D5C637F
MD5: 2740E2947F3CF06FF3260D0530FDA78E
SHA-1: A4317A1D715895E0862678BAA5543188C23A2533

All I see on that page is the small web downloader which starts the installation...

Scroll down to the bottom and in the most left list you'll see "ISO image downloads". ;)

Yes, which leads to a page of ISOs in different languages, identical to the Technet ISOs except for their filenames.

Thats the setup (Dl) for the web installer, one has to run that to snag the web installer .iso

Um, I've run it and it doesn't snag any ISO at all. What it does do is download all the individual files and dumps it to a folder called \WindowsESD. No ISO. Where exactly is this ISO, because I've searched the entire drive without finding any ISOs. I mean, the whole purpose of the web installer is to NOT use an ISO (which has to be mounted etc).

One runs this (I ran it in Win7 x86):
Windows8-ConsumerPreview-setup.exe
Size: 4.99 MB (5,233,720 bytes)

& gets several windows the last 2 are the most important.

Ah, well that explains it then. And in the traditional "logic" of Microsoft they chose to allow you to export it to an ISO _only_ when you chose to install it to an another partition... lame.

I guess I have to compare this ISO to the public CPs and see if there are any differences. I also wonder if it grabs the x64 one or x86 one depending on the OS you launch the downloader from... if there even are two types that is.

Edit: I created the ISO now and it's vastly different from the one Viper made. Mine is 2.99GB in size with a completely different checksum.

Just for info, the boot.wim created is 199MB in size, install.esd is 2.28GB in size and the sxs folder is 288MB in size. So why the large size difference from viper's iso?

Mine (sizes taken off the burned DVD):
boot.wim: 158 MB (166,336,900 bytes)
Install.esd: 1.74 GB (1,871,993,876 bytes)
Sxs folder: 151 MB (158,539,073 bytes)

*I did a install (off the DVD I created) of mine last month on a logical drive, it worked & took 9 min, 10 sec to hit the desktop.

Edit: Mine was created on 2/29/2012, if that makes any difference.

Well, it clearly does something custom with it (perhaps it adds drivers just for your hardware?), which unfortunately makes it for a bad release on BA. So it's nothing I can release.
