At 5.23am this morning the server was taken down due to a suspected "hack" attempt coming from the server towards another server outside of the data center. This operation was automatic by the data center automated protection systems.
When I got up this morning I had a few messages on Facebook alerting me to the problem so I quickly got up to discover the take down message in my inbox. I immediately contacted the data center via e-mail, ticket and their forums. It took some time but they eventually allowed the server back onto the network at about 10.30am, but under the premise that I would scan the server for malicious activity.
I have scanned the server and nothing was revealed, so I am in discussion with the data center to find out what is going on. The BA server was not the only one to have this "hack" problem this morning, so it is possible that it's a vulnerability in the operating system itself. This should be under investigation by the data center.
In the mean time, the site is running as normal, but I'll keep you all updated if I hear anything further.
