Hello everyone,

The amount of issues I'm having with the Windows 8 Customer Preview is insane! The weirdest issues are happening and I'm trying to solve them for days now.

Does anyone know how to solve (any of the) following issues?

1. Most of my apps are German, this happens after every clean installation. My primary language is Dutch and not German. The weird thing is that I never selected this, neither do I know how to change it to English or Dutch since all of the settings are already correct.
Image

2. I don't know how to change the network name. This was very easy in Windows 7, but the option is no longer there since the Developer Preview.
Image

3. None of the "Lock screen apps" show up in the lock screen.
Image

Image

4. I can't find the Windows To Go (previously called Portable Workspace Creator) anywhere.

5. I can't login to the Music or Video app and I don't know how to add songs and videos to the liberary. This does work correctly in the regular WMP.

Sorry for the long list, but these things are really annoying me and preventing me from installing Windows 8 Developer Preview outside of a virtual machine. I hope anyone knows a solution to some or more of these annoying problems.

As for the apps in german I have almost the same problem... I came from an upgraded win7 setup (on real PC), but my system was in english (with italian keyboard, and country settings) and some metro apps (mail, calendar, reader, people) suddenly turned in german! I haven't changed anything but it simply happened and don't know why...

This my friends is why people should read the APP info some of the APPS are in german only and other languages and most do say that.
As for the xbox live APP it's only supported in some places UK not being one of them

1. I believe the Metro apps are not yet localised as well as the rest of the OS, so they are only available in a few major languages (English, French?, German, Spanish, etc). Obviously, this will be fixed by RTM.

3. Lockscreen Apps only display if they have something to show. Otherwise they are hidden.

5. A beta limitation is that the Microsoft account services (Music, Video, Xbox Live) are all US-only. This will obviously not be the case by RTM, or probably even sooner.

I honestly don't believe that the apps are only available in German, but not in English. What is the source of this anyway?
If you say that some apps are german only, then why is this random screenshot English? http://www.winsupersite.com/content/con ... e632a7c5de

1. That makes sense, but it has to be possible to change the language from German to English. :? The rest of the OS is English as well.
3. Ah ok, thanks. I didn't know that :D
5. Ok, I guess waiting for the RTM is the only way for me to use this option then.

Does the limitation affect the People app? No matter what it doesn't want to sync with Twitter.

I wonder if those instructions fix the lack of decent grammer in your posts. 8-)

As for the issues with sign in regions, it's just a case of what is available where. In other words, the U.S.
I also noticed an issue with certain notifications not displaying for me.

Great! Thanks a lot, it works perfectly.

Here are the detailed instructions.

I'll try this as soon as possible, thanks for the link.

The last thing that really bugs me is the network name, does anyone know how to change that?

I put together a post showing how to creat your own Windows To Go USB drive with the Consumer Preview (a few differences from the Dev Preview):

http://www.triballabs.net/2012/03/step- ... -on-a-usb/

The control panel settings for Windows To Go are only of use if you want to be running your Windows To Go on a that particular host machine. You can of course run your Windows 8 To Go instance on any hardware capable of running Windows 7 no matter what OS is installed on it. Just get to the boot options during BIOS loading and pick your USB drive to boot and your away. Can be slow installing drivers when you plug it into a new bit of hardware but then in future it is much quicker.
Can't help you with your network naming I'm afraid.

That's only supported in the USA, Japan, Germany and France I think... Oddly not in the UK.

My biggest problem with Windows 8 CP is that I borrowed the install media from a friend (my data cap is horrible) and now the system is in Recovery mode for some reason.

Another problem I had was the Lock Screen Apps, they would show up but in tiny print next to the time, to me it seemed pointless.
