I got a new phone and it has a lithium ion battery, I just wanted to know if this type of battery is better pump charged (Short charges whenever) or old fashioned charge when dead for long periods of time. I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask but I just feel more comfortable in this forum.

They generally don't care too much, but they don't like complete discharges much, so avoid if possible.
Thanks, I also wondered if it was ok to recharge a phone it isn't even half depleted (i.e. 70% charged) or using it while its charging.
Perfectly fine. After a few days of doing that, it will go through a charge cycle and you'll be fine doing that on a regular basis. Just make sure to spend one or two days a month doing a deep discharge and a full recharge to maintain optimal battery health.

Lithium Ion batteries should not be completely discharged. The 0% your phone reads is not actually 0%, because a lithium ion battery will be ruined if fully discharged. It is recommended to run the battery down every so often in order to make sure the readout stays calibrated with the battery. If you've ever noticed weird battery percentage jumps on devices before its because the device has lost its calibration with the battery, but will self correct after a discharge and recharge.

Thanks everyone for your replies, its because I have a charger so handy at my desk next to me and after I do a bit of gaming and browsing on my Galaxy S2 it tends to suck a faction out, so I'm tempted to just plug it back in the charger for later use
