Mhm, I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I'm no longer able to put App's on the side (e.g. running 2 App's at once and being able to look at both!). Is there some setting I could change, maybe it messed up somehow automatically, or I [censored] something up manually :>

I kinda miss that, loved the feature... :/

P.S. Yeah, it says it supports Google Mail, but it doesn't really work. I've tried with m.google.com & google (domain), but it doesn't let me login. Neither does Hotmail, but then again, I don't know settings for that e-mail.

Put app on the side: Move mouse to bottom left, go up and find another app (or desktop), drag rightwards then it works. Didn't change anything after installation, and the function is still available. This won't work when at the start screen.

Well, that's how it was working before (last night & earlier today), but not anymore. Is there some specific name for this feature? Like a sidebar app or so? So I could look up in FAQ or somewhere about this, because it's lame that first I had this option and now it just doesn't work, no matter how many times I try or what App I try :x

*EDIT*

Quote from Microsoft Answers forum:
Quote:
Docking or 'Snapping' a metro-style app will only work in resolutions greater than or equal to 1366 horizontally. 1366x768 is the minimum supported resolution for this feature.

As I was testing dual screen thingie, I lowered my resolution, thus weren't able to do this. Sorry, my bad. Although, maybe this answers other people question, in case they'll have the same problem.

You can kill it and restart it just the same as before. The only "major" change is that the drawing and management of the task bar is no longer solely done by explorer.exe and when you close explorer the rest of the UI remains active (that includes metro and taskbar it seems)

The Beta was released yesterday. The full, retail version of Windows 8 has not yet been released.

Isn't the full version to be released at the end of the year right?

Microsoft hasn't said anything about it yet. OEM's like HP have mentioned that Windows 8 computers will be released Q4 2012, but who knows if Windows 8 will actually be loaded on them and they're not simply "Windows 8-ready" or something.

I wish they had released more because now I have to go through my connections to get the good versions like:

Windows 8 consumer preview with apps.

Other than that I have nothing to complain about.

I wish they had made some sort of way to still have the start menu but thats minor also its hard to kill the games sadly.

It takes ages (like 5min or something) just to load the boot menu on my PC now, after that both my W7 and WCP boot fine, I'm thinking it might have something to do with the fact that WCP is of a virtual hard disk, but it's annoying it has to load before I get to boot to W7 (which is my main).

Downloading using Firefox on WCP isn't working for some reason (it deletes the file as soon as it completes, never seen that before).

Does the disable Metro/enable old startmenu registy edit/hack work?

Can't say I have tried it yet, just about to have a look at the 'Metro Controller' app to see if it still works.

Edit: Nope, it doesn't.

While I enjoyed your video, there is one part that I don't agree with, and that is this:

As far as the Start Menu is concerned in Windows 8, the "Charm bar" menu that pops up when you move your mouse cursor to the lowest left corner of the desktop (as far as I'm concerned, anyway) is the Start Menu - just highly updated, but never really removed. That's how I see it, anyway.

Also, as far as Metro being revolutionary for Windows 8, you must remember that the Explorer shell was also a similarly revolutionary change for Windows 95, as opposed to the old Program Manager, as well as the near total integration of the Win32 code, so although Windows 8 will be quite a large release from Microsoft, I wouldn't say that it's more of a major release than either Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0.

But all in all, you did a great job showing off Windows 8, and as I've said earlier, I'm going to install and test this build for myself as soon as possible!

No. Three important things that he was wrong include the release date, the Windows 8 logo being fake, and the Windows 8 logo not being included in the consumer preview-escrow builds.

In other news, just got this bad boy installed on my MacBook Pro - works great. All (well, most) of the Boot Camp drivers seem to work a-ok, so that's good. Only problem I've had is with the ambient light sensor - it kept making my display flicker back and forth between brightness levels. A look inside the Power Management control pane fixed that right up and now I'm good as gold.

I still think the UI is horribly broken for keyboard/mouse users, but it seems to work pretty well with my Macbook's multitouch trackpad. Bringing up the charms bar is horribly unintuitive, and the new "Start Button" (or lack thereof) is completely idiotic. I'm not yet particularly thrilled with the level of customization that the Start Screen offers - the colors all look incredibly dull and the designs in the background are frankly ugly, but that's personal taste. Windows Store is great but again, lacking intuitiveness.

All in all one step back, two steps forward.

Umm small question since the beta is time bombed what are we supposed to see if we forward the date too much?

@ canouna he guesses too much it was best to wait until other sources confirmed what was happening.

I loved Windows 8 Developer Preview because it had the Start button. I still like Windows 8 Consumer Preview though and how far Microsoft has gone with innovation.

Typing this from the CP. I have to say, I like it. I don't miss the Start Button at all, thanks to the "active corners" (an innovation Microsoft may or may not have borrowed from GNOME 3, which has a very similar feature). These also finally give me a good way to actually CLOSE programs instead of just hiding them. The OS installed in under 5 minutes, which actually shocked me as I went to make dinner and came back to see the Personalization screen waiting for me instead of the expected "Copying Windows Files" dialogue. The visual improvements, while minor, are nice. All in all, I feel Microsoft is going in the right direction.
