If you don't like Windows Server 2003, is it possible to upgrade to a newer version of Windows (Server counterpart)?
I could, but I'd have to do a complete clean install since I can't get my Server 2003 domain schema converted over to a Server 2008-compatible schema.

Surely, you could either install the latest Release Candidate or pre-RTM version of such, and convert it to a Service Pack release using maxtorix's procedure,
>using pre-release Windows on a production server Yeah. No. For something as mission-critical as a server, you do not ever run a pre-release copy of Windows on it. That's just asking to have a major failure.

or even install Windows Server 8,
Windows Server 8 is AMD64 only. My server does not support AMD64. The only builds of Server 8 out there are pre-release anyway.

Got Mountain Lion Developer Preview 1 working (I think this is a tradition for me to install Dev Preview builds after they just release). I finally solved the problem, why 10.7.1 and higher wasn't booting, that's because Apple dropped support for my IDE chipset. So I install another JMicron kext (so that I have 2 of them), and it's all working (except the single-user mode, duh). I also used AppleEMC, because people reported that this is better than FakeSMC on 10.8.

Well, actually, if you converted the pre-RTM version of Windows to a later Service Pack release, then not only would it have already been a pre-RTM version earlier (with almost no bugs remaining), but whatever remained of the pre-release charactoristics would be removed by the Service Pack release anyway, which is why I suggested it (please note that I only support such procedures in cases involving economic problems, and that I'm otherwise for aquiring Windows normally).

Except you could just use a proper RTM copy. Even if it's pirated, less scope for bugs and no more illegal.

Desktop and laptop are the same boring stuff as ever (just faster since I put in new SSDs) so why now show off the new server I built: Gentoo VM, for SSHing and other linux related things.
Server and another server (host running 7 Pro 64-bit hosting VMs and NAS, guest is 2008 R2 Enterprise doing DHCP, DNS and something else, ah MSDNAA)
The whole thing is mounted in a soda crate, hostname after a local beer distributer: Early build, I've added some supports and an external board with some more external drives to increase NAS capacity.
