Hi everyone. Recently, I overclocked my Intel Pentium Dual core E5200 2.5GHz to 3.0GHz (FSB 200MHz to 240MHz). However, when I stress it with IntelBurnTest, it gets a 71°C (160°F) high temperature. Is that safe to overclock it to a higher speed?

My computer’s configuration:
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.5GHz
CPU Fan: 2000rpm
Motherboard: Asus P5KPL-AM
RAM: 2x2GB DDR2
HDD: 160GB IDE
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

is it it safe ? no not at all and your asking to OC more 71°C is to hot as is and your CPU could die at that temp i would clock it back to 2.8/2.7 but that fact your asking this question shows your new to OC and you have jumpd in the deep end

Overclock at .1 ghz increments, a restart and 5-10 min wait in between overclocks, do the stress test after each too!

And get a better heat sink from cooler master.... helps A LOT !!

1 ghz increments ? yes if he want's to burn his CPU out dead a safer bet would be 100MHz increments takes longer but it's ten time safer. however in this guys case he has hit the danger zone his CPU runs way to hot and could burn out he want's to de clock to at least 2.8GHz to be in the more comfortable zone of 50 degrees 55 being max.

Another question, when the temperature increases x°C, will the temperature increase x°C, or less than it, or more than it?

Hello!
My own computer's temperature never going too high because overcloced.
Previously will be mistakes, and froze.
Do not have to worry about the temperature, especially for non-Intel.
Allways run Memtest few hours when you set any clocks to high (about 15-20% oc or more).
And run CPU stress app-s.
If no misstakes in memtest, and windows not frost, good.

i wouldn't overclock your CPU unless you really need too otherwise i would leave it alone. Most modern computers can do tasks users want to do with fast speeds without overlclocking it just wears out parts quicker

Install new cooler and get noisy, but fast overclocked computer without high temperature.

Good cooling before overclocking.

No, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is pretty much the best all round cooler for LGA775.
Also, add a bit more voltage to the CPU core when you are going at a higher speed.

Not unless the ICs involved are adequately cooled.

I generally make it a rule of thumb not to overclock computers I use frequently or have important data on it without backing up. But if you really want to overclock I recommend that first you get a better cooler than the stock one, as in my experience the Intel stock coolers are not very good, and as others have said only overclock in small increments as you dont want to fry your processor. Although other processors in the Pentium E5x00 family can go up to 3.2 ghz doesn't mean they all should. So I would weigh the pros and cons for what you are trying to do. If you are only overclocking to make your email and youtube load a little faster I wouldn't recommend it, if you are overclocking because you need to preform some cpu draining task, then in your case I would recommend a processor upgrade or a new computer as pentiums weren't really designed to preform to the max.
