The other alternative is to bring back the adverts to raise a bit of revenue

That seems like a great idea :) We could have a VIP lounge or something like that where donators, moderators and myself can go to talk about anything.

I don't think the status would be a good idea since some people have customised status's already. Remember they are already mentioned on the donations page.

There was something like that on OSBA, called Supporters Longue or something like that. However it was not very popular, only several topics were there...

With so few donations so far, it would not be worth having a separate forum for those who donated just yet.

Maybe a little extension of the VIP forum idea is that every month we have a public vote on the forum on who has been the most helpful and maybe a few different ones and along with donaters, they get a months access to the VIP forum?

Not a bad idea, except a change to the last bit, it should be a lifetime membership. It should be made very very difficult to get into the VIP group, and every month the mod's have a discussion over who should be the next person to be allowed into the VIP group and be allowed into the forum. Or maybe every fortnight? Who knows.

Heres a few friendly thoughts I have for toshua

You are offering a free and paid hosting service. True, you might get a few free users, but that won't bring revenue, even with ads, because forced ads drive people away from your site. Also, you have to deal with all of the illegal hosting (warez) that a free hoster deals with.

About your paid accounts: $1/month will help with the bill, but still probably isn't enough. That is unless you have a lot of people sign up each month (in which case you would need more servers, raising the bill a lot.) Also, on websites where people pay money, they ususally like it to be a bit more "Profetional" looking (it's spelled: professional)

I don't mean to start a war or make anyone mad, I'm just trying to explain with common sense how hard it will be for you to survive in this area when you don't have a full time job and don't have any sponsors. :)

EDIT: I just noticed that your paid hosting is $1/month. That probably still isn't enough, but may help on a dedicated.
One more thing I thought about was the fact that you have to do taxes on your business (at least you do here in the US), so you will have to sort that at the end of the year.

My minimum cost for hosting is $10 a month and that covers just 1/12 of the cost of the server. I have 1, yes 'one' person hosting on it, the rest is paid for out of my own pocket and by donations. Hosting is very overrated these days and people will choose very carefully when they choose who to host with. It takes a lot of time and patience to start hosting. I've been trying for 2 years to get a reputable amount of people hosting with me, but its very very hard.

As a 13 (no doubt soon to be 14) year old, I don't think its the right time to start thinking about a business such as this. For a start, work on your grammar and spelling etc. It will help you in the long run believe me.

You need to learn to proof read as well. "i" might be next to "u" on the keyboard but its no excuse for getting it wrong.

By the way grammar is spelt with an A not an E. Common mistake.
