You sure it's a combo MIDI/Joystick port and are you sure it's enabled in the BIOS?

On another note, I have a Gravis PC Gamepad myself... it works on my old 486 but not on my Windows 2000 box. Go figure.

What number should the numbers be? (in bios)

Windows Vista and onwards lack game port drivers, and there aren't any I've been able to find.

Windows vista sp1 CAN use some creative SB drivers to use the game port. Or you could add a sound card with a joystick port to an older PC. There must be drivers, but Windows 8 would have no support for it. If it's older, why are you even running windows 8 on it, anyway? I'd use at least a 3.0 GHz CPU with Win 8. And if its an older gamepad, you'll need an adapter, the original IBM PC's was the same size, but different pinout.

Game ports were used for a long time. I've seen even late Pentium 4 motherboard from around 2005 with them on-board. Some soundcards even had a game port, my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS does, although you can't use it.

hmm. I've seen loads of P3 boards and early P4s with the game port, but I thought they did away with it in around 2003 or 2004. They havn't made many GamePads or joysticks for the gameport since 2002, but I wish they still did. but now, everything has moved to Universal Serial Bus, and the good old ports are gone. But USB has its good things. any way, there might be a way to use XP drivers for it, If you can manage to find them. Mind you Windows 7 wouldn't make full use of it. I read somthing on the web a while ago on how to do it, maybe a google search would help.
