Now how can you put the winlogon.exe crack in Longhorn Builds (all) in VMWare? Because you cannot stop the process or the computer crashes. Now if you don't stop the process, you cannot apply the crack as the system says that another program is using it.

You did not hear me say this lol.

However with a winlogon umm modification you can just use takeown command or take ownership then gain permission manually or use the icals. This will make it possible to replace winlogon with whatever file you wish as the file is not digitally signed there is nothing more you have to do. If you screw this up its at your own cost as winlogon modifications can really mess up your computer.

I'd rather not explain how I know this now.

I'll make it easy open up CMD as admin and punch this in:

takeown /f "C:\Windows\System32\Winlogon.exe"
icacls "C:\Windows\System32\Winlogon.exe" /Grant Administrators:(F)

What this does is Give you ownership of winlogon.exe as Trusted user has it. Then it gives you full admin permissions so you can do whatever you want with it.

Look up taking ownership and giving permissions on google for the rest.

So does the cracked winlogon.exe bypass the Windows activation?

If all else fails, you can always boot into a WinPE and swap it out from there.

It's a good idea to simply rename the old winlogon as well, rather than delete it. That way, it's not going to have a problem with running processes, and it's easier to restore should something go wrong.

The cracked winlogon.exe does not work for my Longhorn 3718 VM. I used the correct version I found on the Internet and believed the WPA would say "Windows is already activated." But it did not. I swear I replaced the winlogon.exe with a cracked one. Any help? Should I really get a WinPE and copy it to my Longhorn VM?

It will not trick msoobe that it's already activated, but it will never expire.

There is another patch (so-called "401111" patch) if you REALLY want it to say that it's activated (but not required).

I would go by Housell advice cause it means if you screw anything up you can still recover as I don't use winlogons other people make as I really don't like them at all.

You need to use a Vista crack in order to make that work not gonna give links as I don't wanna push it. You can find a way to kill the alpha and beta time bombs on your own haha. I wonder why so many people are going back to longhorn though its been surpassed by Windows 7.

Longhorn is just one of those things that's full of so much hidden stuff, bugginess, cool visual effects and so on. I bet you people 20 years from now will still be trying to run Longhorn on modern hardware of that time.

Ok cool I was just wondering as for the crack part I'm not that interested in making something for a beta OS so you guys are on your own for finding a way to take care of the time-bomb shouldn't be that hard thou ;)

I used Windows Activator LE on my pre-reset Longhorn builds when I felt lazy.
