may be noobish but is really cool
I find that i do not like giving people my password to my wifi everytime they come over. I found this program on the net where you can create a WiFi hot spot through your computer. You put in a SSID and password and click start and there you go. The speed is of course a bit slower but it is great for guests. Here is the link:

On vacations I use Connectify. Works great and you can also set-up a "real" hotspot with WPA2, instead of an ad-hoc.
To make an secure hotspot you need hardware which supports it, I have an Linksys PCMCIA card which does.
Why in the vacation? Most of the camp sites have a wireless hotspot but you have to pay for it. Since I have my laptop with me, my parents also have theirs and my dad and I have both a smartphone. That would be 5 times WiFi enabled hardware and 5 WiFi passes for aprox. €100,- in total. With this software I set up an hotspot and share it along the other 4 devices and we have an connection for only €20,- a week.
For home use... I would like to advise to buy a FON spot. You share your internet with FON users so you can use the connection on the way from other FON users! Brilliant concept if everybody does this! You can also setup a few accounts on your own FON spot so you can share your connection with friends and family you don't want in you normal network since the FON spot can reach your home workgroup.

Clever!
So is that what the second network card on my Eebook is for? It is called a hotspot, so I wonder if the Eebook already has software to make up a proper hotspot?
It's different from an ad-hoc network cause this actually looks like a router. For example a nintendo Wii can't connect to ad-hoc for an unknown reason, maybe nintendo is too lazy to implement it in the firmware. Cause this kind of virtual routers look and ehave like real routers the chances are pretty big the wii will take it. So in some cases it's better than ad-hoc, but just for internet sharing between pcs there probably isn't a big advantage.
