First piece of news I've seen since opening my PC this morning. Aparently it was a human error on Microsoft's end which resulted in everyone that signed-in for the new dash upgrade also got this.

I hope I'm misinterpreting what people have posted, but apparently EA has taken down the beta server rendering the demo useless (my interpretation is MP and SP. Controlling SP with a server doesn't seem right though...)

I wouldn't be surprised. According to EA's EULA, their programs "call home" sending usage statistics and platform information (PCs only I believe; wouldn't make sense for consoles). You also probably have to register with Origin, so to a certain degree your entire game is hooked up to their servers, regardless of MP or SP.
Hell, if anyone'll get it working on jtag'ed xbox I'd be so jealous... (still in warranty and don't want to lose it)

Has there been any confirmation if this requires the new dash to run? I know that modifying flags and resigning/rehashing some stuff in programs like Modio can open the door for a lot of fun things

there's ways to get around that i suppose, if they got the source code someone could modify it
The only way that could ever happen with this type of system is if an employee purposefully uploaded the code, build tools, and assets (which would, in all, be much larger to this) to ruin his career and go to jail. That would also only make sense to release to PC's not XBOX's anyways.

BioWare apologizing ? Judging from their forums it was MS who "messed" it up. Also, it seems that you have to pass through a EA login screen before even entering main menu, so unless someone can spoof a Origin server we're out of luck.
Then again, I'm hearing lots of people who argue that this leak has had a bigger impact than any marketing efforts up-to-date. Someone should do some cullings inside the marketing department (starting with Mr. Awesome Button).

The entire game (in whatever dev stage it was) leaked. Sadly you had to be authenticated by EA's servers before even entering the game. When the leak was discovered, EA pulled the plug and whoever still has the beta is left with a useless app (unless someone hacks it).

Well, its probably the only leak of Mass Effect we'll ever see, at least as far as Cmd. Shepard's story is concerned. JTAG'ed dudes will probably have a higher chance of breaking into main menu.

ME3, really the only game I'm looking forward to after DX: Human Revolution. I remember the good ole days at the bioware forums and how most everyone was recently up in arms when the underwhelming Dragon Age II was released.
