I recently re-installed Windows 7 from DVD and I did a complete wipe and re-install. This also knocked out the Windows 8 bootsector so now, I can't dual-boot between Windows 7 and Windows 8. I'm guessing that fixmbr from the WinDP DVD will do the trick, but can anyone confirm this?

Also, I've heard mixed reports on Windows 7 activation and Windows 8. Does installing Windows 8 cause Windows 7 activation to mess up or no?

I highly doubt that a Windows 8 installation would have any effect whatsoever on an existing Windows 7 installation, apart from upgrades and also clean installations on the same partition (causing the earlier installation to be placed in WINDOWS.OLD, as with Windows Vista and Windows 7 earlier), unless the Activation scheme is based in part on the hard drive's boot sector, which I highly doubt.

Windows 8 does not affect Windows 7's activation in any way. I've been happily dual-booting them since the DP came out without any problems. Also, when I had to reinstall Windows 7, I just used EasyBCD to create a new Windows 8 entry and pointed it to my Win8 partition. Hope that helps.

This plus doing a "Repair Your Computer" from the DVD got Win8 back up and running.
