Forum rules


Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

today i found my old 15gig hard disk (at the time 15 Gig was awesome); Immediately i hooked it up to my pic and found some cool stuff most of all some old Need for Speed games.

NFS 1 : Roads and tracks
NFS 2 : Second Edition (SE)
NFS 3 : Hot pursuit
NFS 4 : High Stakes
NFS 5 : Porsche Unleashed
NFS 7 : Underground

P.S. I can't guarantee that they will run. In my tests NFS 1 gave an error that it cant run on 64-bit ( no surprise. It has a .bat file ). NFS 2 ran under win 95/98 compatibility mode but crashed after some time. NFS 4,5 all ran under 98 compatibility mode. And NFS 7 also ran under XP compatibility mode.

This is my first upload. Can you guys help me with the whole upload process. Like How does the content get authenticated by mrpijey ? Is there any stuff i should put in the archive i-e file list etc. BTW this is abandon-ware right ?

First check if they're not in the FTP already. If not, put them in proper shape (media format, file names, compression, etc.). Now you need to open FileZilla and connect to the upload account. Once you're in, make a folder named "from <your nick>" and upload files into that folder. Once everything's fully uploaded, make a new folder inside the one you made previously and name it "Completed"/"Finished"/etc. If you have any last minute info to provide make additional folders or upload a TXT file. Then wait.

There you go. Piece of cake. ;)

You can only upload beta's and abandonware... the rule for abandonware is software that is at least 10 years old and out of support. NFSU is from 2003 so you will have to wait another 2 years before upload that one! Check the others also to keep BA out of trouble. ;-)

And also... make sure that there is NO crack/NO-CD/hack or other program inside the CD/DVD image! The best is to upload a 1:1 copy of the original media so it is verified that there is no change to the CD/DVD image.

Don't ask me for uploading anything outside BetaArchive (so no MF, RS, MU and others). I will explicitly upload to the BA FTP for centralized storage and preservation...

Just checked the FTP, and I find it interesting that none of these have been uploaded yet. As said, Underground was mader in 2003, thus inappropriate for upload.

The reasons those weren't uploaded is because I try to keep the abandonware to floppy stuff first, which is also the oldest and meant for an outdated platform (DOS). CDs take up a lot of space and many of those games are also still sold through GoG, Steam etc. I have all the Need for Speed games along with a few TB of other games, but I've waited with those for now until we magically find a goldmine (to fund the massive storage server needed) or when BA buys all the major gaming corporations (so we can give ourselves permission to release these).

Everyone interprets abandonware differently... at BA it is more than 10 years old and out of support...

Abandonware is in fact software that is still copyrighted but "abandoned" by it's respective owner. In fact it is illegal to upload copyrighted material, even this old. But since it is out of support and "abandoned" the respective owner won't do anything against it.

As fas as I know the only company which have a problem with "abandonware" is Nintendo...

HP2 (released in 2002) is also not abandonware yet, though the OP didn't offer it so yeah, everything on that list except Underground could be uploaded... ;)

I have NFS:SE around here somewhere which has extra tracks and cars.

NFS2:SE was the best one because it came with a Glide renderer that made it look AMAZING on my Voodoo 2 compared the the DirectX version. You can get a Glide wrapper and run it in XP... didn't know that! Wonder if it will run in 7.
