It's about time the Pokemon Ruby Debug was released. Imagine the strange, unused things to be found in the ROM. I'm hoping it's on the scale of the unused content found in Pokemon Gold & Silver.

My thoughts exactly!

IIRC work on Genocide City Zone never really started before it became Metropolis Zone Act 3.
The earliest beta we have is the Nick Arcade proto, which is filled with Sonic 1 leftovers. Anything earlier would probably be some bizarre hybrid of Sonic 1 with a heavily WIP Sonic 2 level or two.

Hmmm... "Bizarre Hybrid of S1"..... Also, yes, I know we have the Nick Arcade Proto, infact, its my favorite build! But earlier (even if it is MORE of a messed up wonderland of S1 leftovers and S2 SWIP levels! ) would be AWESOME! As you may know, I LOVE collecting betas, especially for Sonic 2. Mainly early, though; Nick Arcade, Beta 1 (Simon Wai), and even Beta 4.
Ya know, its like Vista/Longhorn build 3683 or 7 build 6469. 3683 contains XP leftovers, but is still Longhorn. 6469 and 6519 has Vista leftovers, but is still 7.

I can answer some of these questions.
Taylorover9000 wrote:

There is a small part of Wood Zone that is playable in the Simon Wai beta of Sonic 2. Dust Hill was Mystic Cave Zone's name mistakenly in the Wai beta also.
Taylorover9000 wrote:

Well, as far as we know, we have the Wai beta, and the Nick Arcade beta. The Nick Arcade beta's EHZ is quite different in many ways from the final, or even the Wai beta. The Wai beta has most of Sonic 2's final levels, many of them incomplete obviously.
Taylorover9000 wrote:

If Beta 3 is found, the Wai beta will be Beta 2, and the Nick Arcade beta will be Beta 1.
Taylorover9000 wrote:

If you go into Hidden Palace Zone in the Wai beta (or the Nick Arcade beta) with debug mode on, there is a small part of Hidden Palace Zone near the end of the level underwater. In Sonic 2 final, Hidden Palace Zone is still there (although very glitchy and garbled), and you would automatically spin down down the tube, so at some point some more work went into it.
Taylorover9000 wrote:

The earliest found proto of Sonic 2 was the Nick Arcade prototype. Its so early that it has Sonic 1 level names, (Marble Zone = Chemical Plant Zone, Spring Yard Zone = Hidden Palace Zone, Star Light Zone = Emerald Hill Zone, and Scrap Brain Zone = Hill Top Zone), Sonic 1 music, and even still has Green Hill Zone from Sonic 1 (with glitchy collision detection). Its even so much like it, that locking it onto Sonic and he Knuckles would unlock the full Blue Sphere game (it also does this in the Simon Wai beta).
I hope this answers your questions.

I'm not that stupid, I like researching Nick Arcade, "Simon Wai", and Beta 4, prototypes. Ya, know what? Debug for NA Proto: C, C, C, C, Up, Down, Down, Down, Down, Up *brrrring*

*sigh* EARLIER THAN NICK ARCADE.

I know this. What if it was %100 complete!

You sure this is the EARLIST EXTISTING build? Earlier than Nick Arcade? 'Cause again, I'm not stupid.
I hope this answers your questions.

Oh , i never expected to see a "Pokemon Ruby" Proto version with a debug. I will surely use various Debug commands to see what unused stuff Nintendo have "hidden" in the ROM =P
