After waiting lots of weeks to get my flash drive back from my teacher, I finally plugged it in to put some files in it.

When I plugged it in and opened it, this showed up:
Image

Then I said "what?" cause its weird, so then, I just clicked Format Disk

After I clicked Format Disk, then put it in default format setting, then clicked start, this popped up:
Image

Its really weird, I don't know the reason why that popped up.

Then after I clicked OK, this popped up next:
Image

So Its really weird cause it can't be formatted.

So I checked the Properties of the Flash Drive, I noticed this:
Image

Its a weird problem, really.

Last thing I did to it is that I turned it into a bootable Windows 7 Recovery Flash drive.

I Googled the problem and no luck.

Help me.

Best thing to do is probably just buy a new one especially as they're fairly cheap these days. Whatever was on it is probably lost :(

Probably the connector is broken, but I'm not sure, because you have 8 MB space on here.

1. Check devmgmt.msc and see if VID/PID doesn't equal 0000/0000.
2. Go to diskmgmt.msc and see how much partitions you have on the drive.

Thanks guys for your help, It seems the flash drive is dead, but I think there is still hope on to reviving this flash drive.

Try the HP USB recovery tool. It has been known to work where other tools have failed. It should be available here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ct=4057188

See if you can rebuild the partition table in diskmgmt.msc

Why did your teacher have your flash drive? I would ask him to buy you a new one.

If anything try using gParted on a Linux Live CD. Mine messed up and went sort of like this, and I could not fix it with any windows tool. I formatted it on Linux and wiped it and mine's good as new.

But as said, get the teacher to buy you a new one if it was working before you gave it to them. Or if not just get one, I mean I just got a 8GB one for £5.

Well, I asked her to give me a movie for a project but she never copied the movie to the flash drive, so I just asked her to give it back to me.

The tool cannot detect my flash drive.

maybe ask to get you a new one i'm one of those people who would hold myself back if the teacher has good intentions if not try to get a new one from her

Yup, after having gone through several flash drives myself it sounds like
it's definitely toast although it might not hurt to take it apart and put it
back together again just to see if the problem is a loose connection inside
the drive.

Try changing the format to FAT32. If it doesnt work still, try sfc /scannow. still cant? I think its your thumbdrive error!

Right click on computer, select manage, then go to storage, then disk management, and try and change the drive letter or format from there. It helped me quite a bit when dealing with usb drives.

That is incorrect. Computers do not get confused, nor does the mount point of a drive affect it's performance and reliability.

@Someguy2,
If you still have that drive, there is some hope on getting it to work (as long as the controller and the NAND aren't split).
Entering debugging mode sometimes helps.
