Hey, everyone. Within the next few days, I'm going to be going out to the Verizon store to get myself a new smart phone! The only issue... I don't know which one to pick! I am personally favoring one of the options, but before I reveal that, I wanted to poll the BetaArchive community. I figure that many of you must have smart phones, so I want to get your feedback to determine which one is the best!

Android is nice if you like working with Linux, you can do some cool things with a rooted phone and adb. Two of the best Droid phones out now are the Droid 3 and Droid Bionic. The Droid 3 has a hardware keyboard and only 512MB of RAM, the Droid Bionic has 1GB of RAM and 4G. Both have 1Ghz dual core processors, have the latest version of Android and have been rooted using the same exploit. But Android can still do quite a bit without root including things the iPhone can't without jailbreaking like running Nintendo emulators.

If you like Apple devices I'd wait to see what the iPhone 5 has. It should be out within the next month. I'm curious to see how it compares spec wise to the latest Android phones. Android is starting to become more of a threat to Apple. I wonder if Android would have become as well known if Apple had made a CDMA iPhone in 2007. Verizon did a lot of advertising for Android until they got the iPhone.

Ummm well android is "A" threat to apple since they are suing everyone who makes an android phone anyone who thinks otherwise is just being plain ignorant. The phone I consider very good at this point is Samsungs Galaxy S2 as well as a few others there I'd like to see. The way I see it is that if apple wasn't suing everyone at the moment it would make life so much more simple.

Galaxy S II. It is the bomb diggity. Got myself one recently

Sadly verizon doesn't carry it for me and I kinda love the unlimited data I get there for life.

I have the Galaxy S II and it outperforms every phone out there.

Omnia 7 at the moment. It's replacement is out soon though, and I'm hopeful that will be better still.

The iPhone 4 is beatiful, and good, but a little bit outdated.

I would advice you:

1. Wait for an iPhone 5, it will be a breakthrough.
2. Samsung Omnia 7, a nice ergonomic phone, good speakers.
3. HTC HD7, big screen, well-made buttons.

Consider looking at these.

Also, I find Samsung Galaxy S II very sluggish, unresponsive, plus half of the interface is stolen from the iOS system, which means it's not innovative, and revolutionary.

Blackberry 9700 is the best, but you rather 9780. 9780 is a updated model of 9700.

Is the N9 sold in yur country?

Sorry guys, I'm on Verizon, and Verizon doesn't carry the Galaxy S2... so that's out.

It looks like I'm split between the Droid Bionic and iPhone 4 (I would wait for the iPhone 5... but my account has a special rebate of some sort for $100 off a smartphone which expires very soon... so I don't think I can wait for the iPhone 5 to be released).

What do people think of the iPhone 4 compared to the Droid Bionic?

I don't think Verizon has the Omnia 7 either.

Well, I suggest you to pick the iPhone 4, because it will still be supported (and it's awesome, and it has many apps, and the brilliant form-factor etc).

Also there are so many apps a person can use so lets make it a pure hardware comparison.

I'd suggest getting an HTC phone, or wait for the iPhone 5 to come out. HTC is a good brand, and the Android operating system is rock solid (just like almost any other Linux distribution). The iPhone, however, looks nicer in my opinion (especially the iPhone 5) and iOS 5 also looks promising.

Guys guys guys... Verizon is CDMA. NO SIM cards. OP is already pretty much limited to Verizon's offerings

The Galaxy 2 is basically a rip off of the iphone running android.
I recommend the HTC Desire.
Or the iPhone.

Any Windows Mobile 6.x or 5. For example, manufactured by HP or ASUS.

I literally upgraded from an HTC Desire to an S2 a month ago, it does every single thing better and faster, sorry.

Echoing the love for the Galaxy S2, it's currently the best phone on the market, assuming you're not already invested in iOS or.. Web OS I guess.

You might consider Windows Phone 7 devices, but I'd definitely wait for the Mango update and associated refreshed hardware, plus serious non-biased reviews (check XDA for a list of open bugs, it's huge).

E: Sorry OP, didn't see that your provider doesn't carry the S2, then I'd say it's time to switch providers to one that will sell you the phone you want. I switched from Telenor to Netcom because they had better prices overall for my exact use case, moving to a GSM provider will definitely broaden your horizons wrt. choosing phones too.

In my opinion, If it's on the list below, it's one of the best ones, because it supports CM7.
