I have a problem with the bootloader not liking winload.exe. I guess it's possible mine was just a bad WIM application though.
Edit: Just seen there is a new bootloader for Windows 8 - I guess you need that then to boot it.

I am getting errors with trying to extract the install.wim file. It says it is not an archive? I have the latest and greatest 7zip, I can't believe no one else experienced this. What am I missing?

Getting the same error... Now I've tried the ISO without the "developer tools". It doesn't seem to give me the error with "not an archive file", that that .ISO with developers tools.

I am getting the same error "file is not an archive", but this is with the .ISO with developer tools. Now I have tried with the .ISO file without developer tools, and it extracts fine??

In short, just replace bootmgr on the root of the system reserved partition Win7 created (or if there's none, on the root of the system partition) with the one on the root of the Win8 ISO.

however when loading from boot, i recieve a signature error
a recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unkown source.
If you have a windows installation disc, insert the disc and restart your computer. click "Repair your computer," and then choose a recovery tool.
otherwise, to start windows so you can investigate further, press the ENTER key to display the boot menu, press F8 for advanced Boot Options, and select Last Known Good. if you understand why the digital signature cannot be verified and want to start windows without this file, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement.
File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Status: 0xc0000428 Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

you mean if you want to delete the last tested version and try the newest build ? It's simple first delete the .VHD file then from EasyBCD click the button Edit Boot Menu then delete the entry of Windows 8 All you have to do next is to repeat thee tutorial steps with your new build of windows 8
Yep... I want to delete last tested version and try a newest build... I know.. I deleted .VHD file, removed Win8 Boot entry... But i want to know it's possible to test newest build without deleting .VHD file and removing boot entry? Maybe it's possible to remove all extracted files from .VHD and put new ones from Install.wim? If it's possible then we don't need to delete .VHD file and boot entry and make another one to test new build.. Let's say: I followed tutorial to test win8... Then we see new leaked build (let's say 7996), now if we need to test that new build, we need to delete .VHD file, boot entry and etc. then make new .VHD by the tutorial.. But simplest way is just delete old build files from .VHD, put new ones, make pc restart and choose Win8 with new build install? So if it's possible, we don't need make new .VHD again and again..
Yes it is possible to use the same VHD over and over again there a program called WinImage which lets you insert and delete files on a VHD
Does this work on Windows 7 Home Premium, or just Ultimate and Enterprise. I am planning on trying the Windows 8 Consumer Preview dualbooting from a virtual disk, but don't know how (I am assuming the original guide of this thread won't work with the Beta, since it didn't work with the DP).

The way I did it:
1. Create the VHD - I made it into C:\Windows8.vhd (same method as described here, except in my case only 20GB fixed size). 2. Reboot into the Windows 8 CP DVD 3. Once in the installer, press Shift+F10 4. Type in these commands: "diskpart", "select vdisk file=d:\windows8.vhd" "attach vdisk" "exit" (without quotes, pressing enter after each command), then if successful close command prompt. 5. Continue with install, but select the virtual disk when asked where to install. 6. Install as usual (even though it says that you can't install on this disk, you can).
