It's like a parody of LongHorn.

Well, I could not post information and screenshots for lack of time, because I will start working ... Returning to the main subject, yet I could not solve the problem of pre uxtheme longhorn reset work in 2003 ... so does the post reset so that there does not work with the winsxs COMCTL and can not give you more special effects I wanted .. the uxtheme Longhorn until 4093 is very similar to XP, so the idea is to run the xp uxtheme in 2003 ... if someone can help ..

but uxtheme from longhorn will work good on server, just you will be able to open only longhorn themes.

no its not

even 3668 build show you dramatic changes in theme engine coding
everything is different, Longhorn themes use different approach and more options that
XP/2003 by default do not use (they have to be added manualy/forced)

not to mention latter DCE dependency which XP/2003 have none
-

it would also nice if you could write what is functional in your ported explorer
3D view ?
Icon resize ?
Breadcrumbs ?
Preview panel ?

I spoke in order to function fully in 3683 and 3718 of just correcting a dependence on xp and not loading in 2003 ... because the Longhorn pre reset the code is older than the server 2003. And the things you said, I already got:
resize icon
breadcrumbs

not tested and the 3d view and preview pane appears in a file that I still do not know what it is, so I asked for help, so that nobody knows or wants to help me ...
If I can run up to 5048 (vista beta type 1) would be spectacular, but I NEED HELP!

Well folks, do not post more news as I am without the net, but keep working on it, I am stabilizing the explorer's 3683, and trying to transplant the explorer's 5048, so I can have icons in high resolution, because I only have high resolution applications (exe) shell longhorn 3683-4066, as it only can recognize low icons stored in DLLs and CPLs

Well, ShortHorn Beta 1 have:

Explorer from Longhorn 4033 working(with shellstyle)
Explorer 3d view
Aero emulation(borderskin)
Programs from Vista and Longhorn

In Beta 2:

Explorer from Longhorn 4093 or Longhorn 5048 or Vista 5112(if my tries returns ok)
Directx 10 and directx 11 adaptation for Server 2003
Windows Media Center from Vista 5219 or 5231
And others app from Vista
App replacement for default old app on Server 2003

I need collaboration!

I have a question is this meant to be client based, server based or both since there seems to be alot of different things from both.

If we will get a working beta 1, I will say that you're pretty good and start thinking that you have got Longhorn code, or you're really good with HEXing files. That Aero emulation is TrueTransparency, isn't it? Aero from 4042 worked this way, you could get borders from desksrv.dll and try to merge this skin into it. Also, I suggest to not implement Explorer from 4033, but from 4074(much stabler IMO).

Windows ShortHorn is cliente SKU, it's similar with Windows Longhorn Pos-Reset, based on Server 2003 Sp2 R2 with Server features removed, and clients features add.

Start hiring testers.

Now for some questions:

Is Shorthorn to be a server build, or more a client like build?
Can you post a few screen shots?
Whats the final build going to be?

Suggestions:

UXTheme, DWM and required components for it, from 5048.
CD installer, for physical computers.

Is this project still alive and breathing?
And is there a reason you decided to use 2003 instead of xp?

Everything Microsoft!
If you didn't know, Longhorn was based on Server 2003, I think he wants that same platform (only more updated).
Anyway, I think he is still going at it (although it has been almost 2 years!) without an real show of it (screenshot or any other) so I presume this project cancelled a few times already and restarted again and so on.

Offtopic Comment
As with (almost) all ''Custom OS'' (most of them are only Customizations anyway, wrong forum) get cancelled early or later, only a few made it out, but these were not on BA.
Oh, may I remind the OP that is is not an Custom OS, but an Customization (big difference), and Custom OS is written from scratch, not modding it.
