I have found these builds on one of my CDs:

Okay, a new build of NT, straight from the NT 5.0 plugfest in Burlingame, CA this past week. This is a very special build done just for this event. It is not from the standard Microsoft build tree (thus if someone at Microsoft pulled 1743 from the internal build server, they would NOT get this same release).

This release is specifically called the "1743 PnP build" and it has alot of stuff added and enabled for testing at this event that is not in the standard build tree. What this means is that in the near future, if we do more NT5 releases, that there will be items in this release that will not be in the futures ones.

The Distractor

I have both of them.
They are both *ridiculously hard* to install in VMs. (I haven't successfully installed either)
1743 is chk. Yeah that's right, a chk build that was pre'd to the scene.

Does anyone know how to install these in Virtual PC?

betascollector: i tried, and failed. In fact, the only VM software that could even partly install them that I tried was qemu, and it didn't even install completely (screwed up in syssetup).

Bochs don't work with it? If not, try it on a old PC machine.

Yes, Bochs is a PC emulator, so it should work. And yeah, I can try it on my Pentium I or AMD Duron if you want.

I think the cd is corrupt.I got one Nt 4.0 Embedded from a abandonware website and it is also corrupt.

From what I see, especially given not only the information provided for it in a text file stored within one of the archives themselves, but also that The Distractor already has both builds, I would say that these are almost certainly real.

I'll not only download them now, but I'll also add them to my internal server.

It's also on my actual Windows installation where Virtual PC is installed and configured with quite a number of virtual machines, meaning that I myself will try installing both builds using it, however, I may have to find a different emulator/virtualizer if installing these builds in Virtual PC doesn't work for me either.

this build has almost the same problems as NT 3.1 Chk, howerer AFAIK it doesn't work on Virtual PC, I will try VirtualBox now.

Build 1743 is a checked build.

I have 1745 one from a long time. After the Setup completes it BSOD with error 0x7f (UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP), first parameter 0x0000000D.

Tried the VGA Mode also with no success. I'm still trying installing it at this moment

P.S for not complaining why I didn't leak it because I wanted to know how to fix it then leak it with guide on how to fix it

Maybe, not sure yet about the exact problem.
Right now I've tried to replace HAL.DLL from build 1671 also with no success. But I bet that the cause of this issue is the same in Chicago 224 Debug we failed in installing previously using debugged USER.EXE because the same way the problem happens (i.e boots up, shows the UI for 1 second then BSOD)

I've tried everything to get 1743 to work but it still fails to boot after the Text-based setup.

No, it's not. Both of builds with highest possibility came from me, and I can claim it's free.
BTW, both are installable. Now I have troubles with installing it (bochs fails during CD boot, Pwned), but it could be installed on VMWare, success depends from a host hardware..

Hmm, the fact that it works with text-mode setup, even past the "Setup is starting Windows" indicates that at the very least, the ntoskrnl.exe in the i386 folder is ok, but perhaps there's a cab'd ntoskrnl that the setup routine expands to the hard drive that's actually corrupted? I don't have the download in front of me, because it's going incredibly slow at the moment. The first place I'd look is in the layout.inf, to see if it's maybe pulling an ntoskrnl.exe for text-mode, and a ntoskrnl.ex_ or similar for the installed OS.

edit- ok, looks like according to dosnet.inf, ntkrnlmp.exe is used during textmode setup, but according to layout.inf, ntoskrnl.exe is copied to the hard drive. Chances are that the ntoskrnl.exe is corrupted in some way, and the multiprocessor version of the same kernel is ok. Could be something to do with low-level hardware cpuid calls detecting multi-core cpu's running the hypervisor/virtualizer software

Someone go get a P2 or a P3 to install these? Some Windows NT builds really don't like the newer processors. It is going to BSOD on a P4 running in default setup. Most of the P4 features needs to be disable. Core2 or newer has even more features like HT, NX and SSE4 which may cause it to BSOD. No multicores either!

Again, why not try Bochs? It emulates PII, IIRC, so why wouldn't it work.
If not, I'll try it on my real machines.
