Favourite OS
Windows 7
Hi guys,

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what the favourite operating system of people currently is; whenever I ask people, they tend to stick to the two powerhouses that are Windows 7 or Apple's new Lion OS, but anyone else have a different favourite OS? E.g. Ubuntu?

I'm just curious. And if all else fails, have a trawl through, you might find a new OS to discover. :)

What is your favourite OS, and why?

- Nap. x

EDIT:

I actually typed out browsers as examples instead of OS's, didn't i. D:

Oh dear sweet lord, my brain is made of fail. Sorry, guys! >.<

What? Since when were browsers known as operating systems?

What the hell if it's swearing it's censored by BA. Thanks...

Napster: I think you should learn the difference between an internet browser and an operating system. Last time I checked, internet browsers did not have their own kernel, drivers or APIs needed to run an advanced computer system.

However, you could argue that Google Chromium is an OS. Same with splashtop OS.
Just a lightweight OS for browsing the internet without being able to do anything else

No Chrom(e/ium)OS is an OS, Chrom(e/ium) is the browser that runs on top of the Linux kernel (in this case) and whatever desktop manager they use on it.

Splashtop is an OS but it's not just a browser either, it also uses the Linux kernel.

Apologies guys, my brain had a massive derp, and I used some browsers as examples instead of OS's. This is because I suck. D:

But the point remains; favourite OS? ^.^ Sorry for the mistake!

I've been very happy with OSX ever since I switched from Windows 2 years ago. I've experimented with Ubuntu, but I'm too dependent on Windows/Mac programs.
My whole family is in the process of switching over to OSX, so my vote would definitely go to OSX being the most overall good operating system.

Meh, I always use Windows 7. I'd say it's my favourite but I like Ubuntu a lot (especially without its Unity interface). I just always use Windows 7, because I've always used Windows, and therefore I'm kinda dependent on it because I can get things done quickly on it. I mostly use Ubuntu if I'm just doing basic stuff, or if I'm doing Linuxy/Unixy stuff (which is rarely) or if I'm just messing around. I have a triple-boot system currently with Windows 7, Ubuntu 11.04, and Windows XP.

Ubuntu for the speed, probably windows for usability. Debian based Linux just for the Tux games :P

I think I'm going to go with Debian and the latest build of Gnome Shell.

My favorite OS is Ubuntu, with Mac OS a close second. The only reason I'm still using Windows is that Valve hasn't created a Linux client for Steam yet. As soon as they do I'm expanding my Ubuntu partition and never looking back. I mean, seriously. Windows is slow to boot, slow to run programs...Ubuntu is faster, more secure, and actually more stable, at least on my laptop. It's also much more customizable than Windows, doubly so if you know how to edit config files and use the command line.

I like Windows 7 because it looks good, it does what I need it to do and it's easy to use. But I also keep close a live CD of Ubuntu for recovery purposes. I also tried Mac OS on a Hackintosh. It looked good and worked right but didn't seem to be more special. The only advantage of MacOS in my opinion is that applications don't bog it down. (a Windows machined gets slower with time, but that's because all the applications that run at startup and that leave things behind at uninstallation.)

In all fairness, wolftail, you can disable startup items and clean out uninstall products. It's easy. However, the fact remains that Windows is larger and slower than Ubuntu.

the google book (cant remember the real name) runs entirely off of the google browser. it is the first laptop made to run off of the internet on google apps. also there are other os's like eyeos that also run in the cloud.

First, it's a "Chromebook". Second, Chromebooks run on Chrome OS, which is based on a Linux kernel and uses the Chrome browser as an INTERFACE. The browser has a complete operating system behind it (as shown by the fact that the install image is over 600 MB). Please do a little more research.

I prefer Mac OS X Lion, since it is fast and does not make stupid mistakes like Windows 7 does. I know because I have dual boot windows 7 and Mac OS X Lion on my laptop and Mac is much faster and stable. Not to say i hate Windows, i just prefer Mac over Windows. Cheers

I am loving windows 7 I switch from vista 2 month ago and its way better. I am really interested in watching BUILD to see more about windows 8 it seems like a really good oS. Thought about moving to a mac 2 years ago since I am an architect and work with Vectorworks but at the end familiarity make me stay with my pc.
