Microsoft opened a new blogs on msdn, with the next about Windows 8.

Quote:
We've been hard at work designing and building Windows 8, and today we want to begin an open dialog with those of you who will be trying out the pre-release version over the coming months. We intend to post regularly throughout the development of Windows 8, and to focus on the engineering of the product. Welcome to “Building Windows 8,” or as we call it, “B8.”

Public pre-release versions ftw! Apart from that, this might not be anything special. And why do they keep saying that they're revamping Windows? They're really not, as far as we can tell so far.

Can't it mean we are very far from beta? Remember the "Engineering Windows 7" blog. They launched it on 14 Aug, 2008 and beta came out on some Jan in 2009. I hope it doesn't take the same time now!

The blog is great at getting insight into the design and decision process at Microsoft, and for minor design changes, but anything major is already set in stone I think.

I wonder if they've actually been installing and using the old versions of Windows to show on B8 - They've got a couple Windows 3.1 pictures and a Windows 1.01 picture.

I hope so ribbons in explorer can be deactivated without losing new file copy manager, because it looks really nice.

I can't wait for Windows 8! It looks much better than Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Wow, thats a bold warning. Its a lot of work that goes into the making of an OS they treat it like military secrets. ;o)
