I don't think it passed a week since Firefox 6 was released, and now I just received news that Firefox 7 Beta is available, on a pop-up message in Firefox 6 :OD :beta:

Here is the download link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/d ... lang=en-US

Are they nuts?

What is with all those new releases?

And why doesn't make a 64 bit release, since they work that much at releasing new versions so quickly?

They're trying to be 'modern' by making new releases every 5 minutes, and adding very little with each release. A bit like Chrome; looks like Mozilla are attempting to catch up instead of putting effort in.

Not even Chrome has new version releases that quick.

The only software I can think of is the Linux kernel, which has a new release every 2 or 3 days, but not major ones anyway.

P.S. I have just installed Firefox 7, and I can't see any changes...yet

However Chrome's silent updates are really nice. They work better than Windows XP-7's Automatic Updates.
But yeah, Firefox 6 and 7 will just be performance and web enhancements.

- Bookmark and password changes now sync almost instantly when using Firefox Sync
- Added support for text-overflow: ellipsis

So Firefox 7 Beta is out a week after Firefox 6 is released. You think Firefox 7 will be released by the end of this week?

Wow, I'm on Nightly 9.0a1 right now. Even Chrom(ium) doesn't update like that because I'm using the Chromium 15.0.841 and there is for sure another update but I'm sure it's not 16.0.xxx.

8 won't because 9.0a1 has the same UI as 4, 5 and 6.

Can they just use decimal numbers? Not that it is a big issue but decimal numbers are usually used for minor updates.

I think 7 should be 4.6 and 8 should be 5, and the previous releases the current 5 and 6 be 4.1 and 4.5.

Well, if you think about it, lately not even IE used minor version releases.

But they used some security patches and updates via Windows Update before jumping to next major release, and also takes the product via several Beta stages before releasing the final build, not just one stage like Mozilla does with it's Firefox :beta:

IE also isn't released every 2 hours, it's taken 10 years to get from 6 to 9. IE is good because it doesn't change the version number with the security patches because they are just released as updates, not upgrades.

How about a Firefox development topic so that each time they up the version we don't have to clutter the board or here about what people think of the version number and can instead talk about the features only?
