Interesting lookout, obviously based on Microsoft´s traditional behaviour. But what can we expect from this attitude: the user is constantly on the go to learn about new developments and applications; rest is no good, keep running!

Do we need such a quick go with new Windows and new Windows server versions? On the one hand we do: keep going. On the other hand many users seem to be more satisfied with working with one version or the other, e.g. WinXP, Server2008 or newer. I for ma part love getting used to my favourite versions and keep learning more and more about them, but I´m not against new initiatives. Where would the human race be if we were not curious about new things and new technical developments?

Oh well, it was made in 2003. (I still see the OLD technet logo). They had roadmaps for till 10 years later!
Well what did you expect? They always start the developement of the next version just before current one goes gold/RTM... But to do that, they need to make plans, often for many years ahead, and change them (also quite often)...

I don't know about the image but I would bet that the next version after Windows 8 (both client and server) will be released no sooner than 2016 or even 2017. Do not expect more than two major versions of Windows in every five years plus no more than the half of the next's version development timeline. I have a strong feeling that this is the plan Microsoft is going to follow for the future versions of Windows.
