Why doesn't the signature size rule get enforced more often? I don't mind having signatures but for example, when they're as large as this guy's signature, that just becomes obnoxious.

It's not the signature itself that's the problem, it's the size of the signature.

What does it matter? Just scroll the page down a little further. But if you want my honest opinion: ban signatures entirely.

I don't see it. He/a moderator must have changed it.

This is currently a problem, some people have small screens, and signatires like the one that ThePortalGuy has are enormous.

I think it'd look better if signatures were disabled entirely. It gives the site a more clean appearance, and signatures are usually only used for nonsense no one cares about anyway.

1) Click "User CP"
2) Click "Board preferences"
3) Click "Edit display options"
4) Enable the "No" radio button next to "Display signatures"
5) ???
6) Profit!

Really, I don't see why people should be complaining if they hate signatures altogether, when they can just do that.

In terms of the size problem, I just ignore it.

Signatures will stay. Naturally we will try to manage their sizes so they don't get bloated and abused, but we will allow our members to have a unique signature.

And as FoobyZeeky pointed out, you can disable them in your profile if you don't like them.

I disabled them, along with avatars the other day, makes a much neater forum IMO. To each his own.

I am debating whether to disallow images and reduce the maximum size to a reasonable 128 characters. If signatures continue to get out of hand, that is what will happen. We have been very lenient about signature rules up to now but some people go overboard.

Yeah, the problem is that some people have useful or good signatures. I guess it's about the decision to either get rid of all signatures for all, or enforce the rules upon some or many.

There should be a total pixel limit enforced on images for sure, but I wouldn't necessarily say that banning images would be a solution. Long text signatures is just as annoying as giant images.

There aren't too many massive signatures consisting only of normal-sized text though. I think custom-sized text in signatures should be disallowed.

Banning images will just be an overreaction. I've not been noticing that many oversized signatures, though I may have been blind. Usually if I PM a member about the oversized/offensive signature it gets removed.

I agree with Rioters statement above, maybe if it was enforced more often/publicly we wouldn't have to resort to such measures as Andy mentioned.

IIRC, GIFs are allowed and motion GIFs are the ONLY images allowed to be hosted off-site because the image uploader breaks them.

Actually I don't think the image uploader breaks the non-thumbnailed version... I need to test that.

Shouldn't do. It will break thumbnail versions because without imagemagick resizing GIF's with the animations are a pain.

I think it should be based off of ranks/posts.
As in if you're a VIP you can have a bigger signature then an advanced user.
