Personally after many tries I succeded in installing OSX leopard on vmWare, it's not so slow, but I had some problems with drivers and network.. eventually I solved but took me a lot of time and an usb network card... I would suggest to get some VmWare image as it's much simpler and avoids many problems and patches you have to install ecc... and those I tried runs smooth and great (only some issue with the audio driver that is laggy )
I found on google an image of OSX 10.6 that has ENG-RUS language, this one for me is the best I could get as it's fast and reliable, network and usb work correctly and can be run also without virtualization...

I have a vanilla install of OS X Lion running in VMWare Workstation 7. No lag or anything. The only issue is that sound doesn't work, but I can live with that.

For VMware 7, try that darwin.iso thing. If it doesn't boot and verbose gives a SMC related message (what it did for me), patch your vmware-vmx(.exe) - google for VMware donk patch.

Has anyone had success on putting OS X on VMWare? I have been successful, but it ran awfully slowly.
Well, you can officially install OS X Lion within the VMWare, but only on an Apple Hardware. The licensing permits that you install a Linux or a Windows OS in an Apple Hardware, and within VMWare / Parallels / VirtualBox, you install your official version of Mac OS X Lion.
You can do the same with a not Apple Hardware, just cracking the VMWare, to it thinks that you are trying to install the OS X Lion in an Apple Hardware... but you need a Intel processor, this don't work with an AMD processor.
And, there is no Video Drive, or Sound Drive for virtualized OS X. But you can run everything within it.
