Wow dude thanks a lot for this. I tried Windows 8 but I didn't really notice much difference. =/ I guess I'll have to wait for the release of the actual beta to see any major differences. Thank you again Ahmed.

One small note about using this process with Win8 build 7989: After you boot up the VHD for the first time, it'll go through the "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" stuff, then it'll drop you on your desktop (WITHOUT going through System Setup), then it'll restart and drop you in the regular first-run setup menus. It's a little awkward and confusing, so I thought people should be warned.

I have installed 7989 now using this tutorial. But I have a very low screen resolution. I think it is 800x600 and i can't change it to something else in the "screen resoultion" settings. I had the same problem with another leak of Win8 I installed.

I have to agree. Installed on another partition. everything went without a hitch. Apart from the so called hidden features, which I did not find so mind blowing, I could not detect any performance difference in any respect, compared to Windows 7 running on another identical machine.

The answer to the first question is we can choose which to boot. (I think since the phrasing of the question is iffy.) The answer the the second question is yes.

There are alternate ways to do this. In the Windows 8 setup, you can press Shift+F10 and use the DISKPART tool to create a VHD on your Windows 7 hard disk. Then you can install Windows 8 on this VHD. It's easy to remove the VHD and bootloader entry afterwards (using EasyBCD as you said).

Does this automatically create a boot entry (as in make it any easier to dual boot) or would I still need to use EasyBCD?

Really interesting contribution, but one thing is not clear to me: you speak of creating a VHD. In computer literature of high quality they say Windows8 builds cannot so far run on VHDs. What is true? you´ve alraedy been successful with your VHD, haven´t you?

Uh, what "computer literature of high quality" are you on about? Loads of people have installed Windows 8 builds in virtual machines, i.e. virtual hard drives, so why not on virtual hard drives that are bootable?

Infact, Windows 8 builds work perfectly on VirtualBox, just installed 7955 and 7989.

They work fine on VMware Workstation 8, VirtualBox, physical HDDs, and physical machines booting VHDs. In these terms, there are no issues. I'm just wondering where res read this stuff from.

I often use a method such as this to test out my builds. Some dangerous builds I wouldn't install on a physical partition for all the tea in China.
They can't physically wreck your hard drive, so it's fine as long it's not your main machine. Anyway, all that Chinese tea seems quite a good offer to me
