Winver.exe just displays information from elsewhere, anyway. You can take the Winver.exe from Windows 3.1 and run it in Windows 7 (or 8!) 32-bit and it'll show the version information for the OS it's in.

I modified the Winver from Windows for Workgroups (to "Windoze for Warehouses"), but Winver picks up a lot of stuff from other places. Try running winver in a different OS, and see what changes. This will tell you if you are looking at the right thing!

as soulman nicely said, text comes from registry the downfall is, you'll have to write bat/cmd script that runs on every boot to change it because Windows always reverts changes back to original

And the registry text comes from ntoskrnl.exe, ntkrnl** and shell32.
