Hello all,
An addition has been made to the site rules as follows:
Quote:
- You may not have your username changed on the forum. The one you sign up with is the one you will keep for the length of your time on the forum. Choose it wisely.
After much debating, the decision was made between myself and mrpijey to disallow name changes from any users from this point forward.

Dang, . Oh well, usernames don't matter that much. Although I would've chosen something different if I'd made an account right now, lawl

I disagree, a username says a whole lot about a person which is why you should always choose one that is suitable.
Well, it depends. I agree that a username consisting of random numbers is silly, but so long as its a word or two (such as my username), and memorable to some degree, it's fine. To be honest, when I read a post, I mostly look at the avatar and signature before reading the username. My username doesn't really say much about me, it's just that I've always used it for some reason.

I agree with Andy about the user name.
When I read a post, I am not the least bit interested in the avatar or signature, just the content quality of the post. I read posts to learn things, not to be impressed with someones ability to design graphics.**
There's a saying SYMBOLISM OVER SUBSTANCE, which means it is more important how something looks than how it works. I do not agree at all. Others' opinion may vary.

That is correct. Myself and mrpijey had a lengthy discussion about it and decided the easiest thing for us for administration purposes and to avoid confusion on the forum is to disallow them completely. We're already over-worked without adding more work.

**This doesn't apply to Andy's fine signature...
I didn't say that I didn't care about the post content. What I meant was, when identifying the author of a post, I seem to always see the signature and avatar before the username.

Because, maybe, you signed up as what you thought would be a temporary user, and therefore didn't put much thought into the username? Or you signed up a long time ago and now don't have that nickname? So it's not "stupido". However, I understand Andy's reasons for disallowing name changes.

Yeah, surprisingly enough, we can actually read it without you posting it. Very useful post, I'm sure.

Yeah I see the point of not changing usernames, if you could easily, you'd forget who is who. With keeping same usernames, at least you know who is who which is good.

so will you re-grant membership for vip members and advanced members if they reapply with a new username and ask you to ban their old accounts?
I don't think so. What you would have to do is change the email of your old account to an invalid one so it detects that and deletes itself, then post another 750~1000 useful posts to get into VIP like you would have the first time. New account, Fresh start.

But deletion will cause more problems including invalid references and much more while banning wont and the account is useless just like it will be if it was deleted and all the hard work wont go to waste if you can regain your position you worked hard (or paid) for

Even when windows 9 comes out? If I were you, I would change to my real name before it's too late, unless you're a true windows 8 fan--but you hardly see any "Windows 7 Beta Fan"'s anymore...
