Somewhat early prototype or something for the new AppX technology. This is also generated if you install Office 2012 on Win7 and on my PC the drive destroyed itself, but the apps are still working.

Yes, I have tried to install Office 2012 from the ftp server, but I recieved an error that sais that Ofiice is compatible only with Win 7 SP1 (and previous versions), and in the install splash screen it said that is Office 2010 not 2012

As Windows 8 still uses the branding of Windows 7

But why isn't it somehow compatible with Win 8?

Well it kinda makes sense if Windows 8 is being made by a separate group of developers in Microsoft you would have to make Office 2012 or 15 support an OS that has already been released like Windows 7. However I'm pretty sure that support for windows 8 will be added at another time in the development cycle.

As for the Virtualization when office 2012 is installed it will make a new drive that is normally inaccessible to normal users then use a virtual client in order to access the office suites that would normally be installed in the program files.

It does install in Windows 8 (takes some tweaking of a .xml file).
Not many of the apps in Office 15 work though (in 8).

There are 2 versions I know of, 1 - is a "repack" version that allows one to run Moorea too, this works in 8 also (once you get it installed).

Edit: Oh ya, the "Q" drive is accessable in Win8, or it was for me after a PC restart.

It is accessible after restart to me as well.

And it seams that files can be written to it also.

So this new drive and FS is courtesy of Office 2012, not Windows 8, interesting

Thank you all for the informations.

In facts, i think it's included with Click-to-run versions of Office. I also get this Q drive with Office 2010 Home and Students. The Office 15 release we have use also Click-to-run because I have a "Click-to-run Application Manager" in the control panel.

It's a crucial part of how App-V works, which is what the Click2Run deployment system is based on, it's been asked before, and you should really do some research into it (if only because App-V is a nice tech).

Also, this is not news. Topic Moved.
