Nice, is this like a 3.0 equivalent to ReactOS kernel?
And is this still being worked on or is it dead, because id love to see another third party NT kernel :)

It's not based on ReactOS, but it is (going to be) an open source clone of the Windows NT 3.1 Pre-release from October 1991.

Project is still alive. The guy developing this has had to do a complete rewrite of the kernel, so things are a bit slow right now.

I understand that, the reason i asked was because this thread hadnt been posted on for 20 or more days.

Anyway how complete and stable is OpenNT, would it work if i made a manual install of all the Win32 SS files and tried to fire up SMSS?

It's stable enough but it's nowhere near complete. The currently released version doesn't even have a memory manager!

You can run it just by downloading the floppy disk image and loading it in a VM. It also runs just fine on real hardware.

What are the technical reasons for wanting to use "Pre-release NT 3.1 1991" ?

Aside from pure COFF32... ;)

Nice project there

I've just noticed that the thumbnailer only messes up with blue.

I could be wrong, but it might be treating a certain blue tone as a transparent colour

That's what it seems like for the thumbnail, most of the blue was turned transparent.
But really, this is awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing more from this project.

Windows NT 3.1 1991 prerelease.
