Robert Strohmeyer - MaximumPC — Pre-release versions of Windows 8 have leaked to the web. Here's what they tell us about the upcoming OS.
Recently leaked builds show that Windows 8 will be a very different OS from its forebears, from the kernel to the cloud. ARM processor support, mobile-device optimization, and system-wide menu tweaks abound. There are still a lot of things we don't know about the next OS from Microsoft, but the number of things we can say for sure is growing. Read on for our list of 7 things we know about Windows 8!
There are:
1. ARM-ament
2. Touch Optimization
3. Ribbons Galore
4. Revamped Task Manager
5. Immersive Browser
6. Cloud Integration
7. Portable Workspaces

And there will maybe be a 128-Bit Version of Windows 8 :)

I'm interested in why they are allowing ARM support...

there must be a huge UI change for windows to work fluently on both desktop and tablet

And it's before the Beta.
I hope that changes will be like "from XP to Vista".

There will be no x128 version, because there are no processors of that architecture available on the market or planned yet. 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 B (or nearly 16 EiB) is enough to everyone for now.

I think new Windows Server can be 128-bit. But why we need it now?

I'm looking forward to the cloud optimization and portable workspaces. It'll be interesting to see how they play out. If your profile gets stored on a Microsoft server somewhere and that lets you log in from almost anywhere with an internet connection, that'd be pretty cool. I guess it could also work if you store your profile on flash drive or something similar.

Not trying to bump this thread, but I find this kind of exciting. I can't wait to find out more information about Windows 8. I'm not too pleased with more Ribbon though...it kind of annoys me.

This is impossible there is no hardware support 128 bit if there is no hardware, no need software

Innovation comes with necessity. If they build it, hardware will come!
Especially if they end up crippling the non x128 versions.
Didn't the Vista 32 have memory limitations compared to 64?

Those 32-bit memory limitations aren't a limit of the OS, but in fact the x86 architecture. Ever since the days of the 386 CPU, PCs have been limited to 4GB RAM. It's only when you've got an x64 computer that you can use more than 4GB of RAM, due to the AMD64 design.

1 extra ribbon is hardly "Ribbons Galore", especially when the development of that ribbon has pretty much stagnated and there are question marks over its future.

What a stupid comment.

128-bit is not coming for Windows 8, at least not at RTM. We'll see if any hardware manufacturer decides to put out 128-bit hardware, but it seems unlikely considering there are a hundred ways to improve things before 128-bit would even make an impact.

They are nowhere near that sort of level, anyway, Why do you need so much power!

meh 128bit won't be needed in next 7 years for sure if not more
just look how long it took for 64bit to kick in

but I do dislike that MS still pushes 32bit versions of OS
think that with win7 it was time to go on 64bit as standard
