Windows 7 brang the ability to nativly BURN ISOs to a disk, but with Windows 8 you can now mount them to a virtual drive! Simply right-click on the ISO file and select Mount as ISO (requires admin). No more UltraISO and other stuff, Windows 8 will take the ISO industry by storm. (i think :P)

you guys live in clounds

any other alternative tool beats this "feature" in like past 10 years

them providing just ISO mount is nothing new or revolutionary
in fact its as old as... well too old to brag about

I have a feeling people who made those programs would not be happy of Microsoft...

Anyway Windows 8 will not help emulate licensed disk so most users will use 3rd party soft to avoid protections on DVDs.

Daemon tools lite with its VERY useful gadget forever

Associate everything it offers in preferences with Daemon Tools, untick Autostart, Tick Automount, press ok

Now every ISO is Blue with the Daemon tools logo

All you do to mount, is double click the ISO

Install whatever it is, then press the Square Stop button on the desktop gadget to unmount it

Couldn't be easier

I've always found the plugin in Total Commander comfortable enough to browse ISOs (read only though).

Dunno, I don't think microsoft needs a lawsuit, they probably paid them off with a few pennies (which is millions in non-microsoft cash)

But this is at least not bad, right? I don't expect supporting another formats like MDX or ISZ but mounting a OS iso with two clicks just from-the-box is awesome. Since linux has this ability for many years(though for linux its not mouseclicks but command string)...

Warning, about the ISO mounting, it has bugs... Was installing something with it and the install failed, so I downloaded WinRAR and extracted the ISO instead and the install went through very quickly.

Suggest you wait it out until RTM before trusting it, because it may be just another way to uncover data loss...

Nah, there will always be a place for DaemonTools. Two words, SafeDisc, SecuROM. Most people that requires those tools are using a free version anyway.

But I have to say, ISO mounting in windows on it's own will be a great welcome. But I doubt it will have the same luxuries as all the paid options.

I've been waiting for this feature since the early vista builds.

Very useful addition. I'm not sure why they haven't included it in the past. With ARM support, and a fast growing user-base of devices without CD/DVD drives, the need for native ISO support is huge.
Maybe it will come with a tool for creating ISOs from a disk to move to your driveless device ;)

For me this feature will save a lot of time, as often as I redo computers and mount virtual disk, would be nice for it to be native.

I use MagicDisc for all my ISO mounting needs. Thank goodness Microsoft figured out that a lot of people use ISO's and don't burn to CD's/DVD's all that often anymore. Will save me a lots of time.

I wonder if it's really going to end up being as good as the software that's out there now. I know personally for me the iso burner works as good as any software available, it will definitely be interesting to see

Seeing as how just about everything from TechNet is ISO, it really boggles my mind that this wasn't done sooner. At the very least, done along side VHD mounting.

it makes me feel like they are running after the train... Linux and MacOS can do that since a while now. But at least it's good that they finaly implement basic functions.
