Anyone got an issue where instead of fully shutting down, it creates a small system image and on startup it will restore to that and boot extremely quickly? As it's stopping me seeing the bootloader each time :/

I've installed in Virtual PC 2007 without any problems, but as with Windows Thin PC CTP, Virtual PC additions do not install.

A few quick observations:
-Windows Classic "theme" appears to be broken, as do all of the high-contrast themes associated with it
-The user picture and associated popup that come with it are interesting. It's almost as if they are trying to replace the Start menu
-Windows Update will not scan for updates
-The new preview and details panes in Explorer are interesting
-The Up button in Explorer is redundant with the breadcrum bar

I will eventually install this in VMWare on my desktop. Right now, I'm limited by VPC2007 and my laptop's limited hardware here at school.

Edit: Noticed something new: When you're scrolling through a long list of files in Explorer (C:\Windows\System32, for example), if you use the scrollbar, a tooltip appears showing the name of the file you're scrolling by.

Has anyone actually found a good reason to use the "up-level" button? :S Or is there anything other special that breadcrumbs can't do?

Anyone noticed the Help and Support centre says Undergoing major reconstruction and the search says avaliable in M2. Anyone know if it did change?

Also, I found the Licence Terms for 8, not the Enterprise ones but the ones that actually call it Windows 8. They state the original Timebomb date was October 1, 2010.

Where is the Windows 8 EULA?

And yes i did see the help and support major reconstruction

Edit: Remote desktop connection has an option for auto select quality...

I didnt think there would be one, its not public just internal..

Just download it from the FTP.
Everyone who has downloaded has it already or are asleep now.

I just downloaded this morning with 3.0mb/s (1 connection only).

This isn't an "issue". It's a new feature. Shutdown no longer shuts down, only restart does. It does improve boot times quite a bit though.

Will that not use quite a bit more power ?

MS "We can not improve boot times, so lets just not shut the PC down completely so it doesnt have to perform a complete boot!" Problem Solved.... fail

If I say shutdown, I mean shutdown

If I say "Sleep" I mean sleep

If I say "Hibernate" I mean hibernate

Shutdown should completely turn off the entire PC no matter what

It turns off - It seems to be some sort of half-way option between Hibernate and Shutdown. It logs off, and gets it to a state where the hibernation image can be much smaller, and therefore much quicker to load.

Ok... well, once it RTMs I`ll see what I think of it, but I would prefer them to optimise the actual real boot time, not a half hibernation / shutdown time

Had no problems installing in either VirtualBox or VMware. (As with Vista and higher, you must boot into Safe Mode to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions; if you selct a Windows 7 Easy Install in VMware Workstation, it will install VMware Tools for you.) While VirtualBox has Aero issues, VMware glitches early, but straightens itself out and displays Aero properly (after Tools installation).

ZoneAlarm, naturally, glitches out (issues with the installer, even in Compatibility Mode); however, like ThinPC, ESET Smart Security 4 installs fine. (I didn't even try to install MSE; the issues with that product have been commented on already.)

I suspect they're going down this road because they're getting towards the limits of how much they can optimise the normal boot process.

No differences with Win7 instalation, but...

and a funny reminder mixed with strong one for employees as a desktop pic, also, it tends to crash very often.

As for me, it's not stable for some reasons.
