The Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000. They are laptop keys, small and they hardly make any sound, also it's USB only.
Does that work with Windows 98/2000, or does it need special drivers?
-R
After spending 15 seconds on clicking that link you gave us, I have found that the keyboard works with Windows 2000, not sure about Windows 98. But it works on Windows 2000 hence the name Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 .
There might be a way to make this work on Windows 98.
After spending about 1 minute on the website I found drivers for this keyboard with the oldest driver for Windows 2000 SP4. If you manage to extract the files from the driver installation, there should be an .inf and .cat file which are needed in Windows 98 to install the driver though I'm not sure about compatibility. Hope this helps .

My keyboard is identical to that
My keyboard is just balancing on top of a giant elephant toy that my younger sister owns. It does make my keyboard a lot quieter, but it's still just a little too loud...

How can it be balancing on it without falling off?

I finally tried this method, and not only does it lower the Acoustics, but now, my sister doesn't have to stomp on the floor to tell me to STFU! Yeah I went there, and it's true, with "The Cushion", The acoustics drop a significant 85%, according to my typing.

My typing is fast and loud but I've learned to type softer so that I don't annoy people late at night typing up a good betaarchive reply. It would be louder for me to use the onscreen keyboard because even though it's a laptop the mouse is noisy when I forget and press too hard. When I'm on skype and typing, it says "You've got a lot of background noise!"

Good suggestions here! I use a laptop so this wouldn't work quite as well on that (though suggestions here are nice). For my desktop, I use an IBM keyboard which is light and USB powered (honestly, it cost $5 on sale!) and the sound it makes is very soft as far as clicks are concerned!

I still use 10 year old keyboard, and it seems to be quite loud, but I can't hear clicks on 2nd floor (I'm in house). Only making keyboard dirty makes it more silent.

How can noise irritate you? I have an IBM Model M keyboard and that is the best keyboard I've ever used. I should bring it from the garage and connect it to my KVM switch to replace my PS/2 Gateway one that is loud because the person who I got the keyboard from was someone who used it to send about 100 e-mails a day because of his job.

The modern keyboards suffer of programmed obsolescence. That is why I use a Windows 95-era keyboard, which is very noisy. A keyboard bought a year ago started to swap keys. What I mean by swapping keys is, in example, mapping the K key as T one... And when I press a key for a moment, it responds like the key is left pressed. I hate that when programming or editing config files. The keyboard that I bought is from a spanish brand. Let's try with Dell's SmartCard USB keyboard.

My Alienware TactX keyboard I got for Christmas is nice and quiet except for the Spacebar. But that's only because I accidentally broke one of the prongs that holds it in properly when I took it off to clean it. But like I said, other than the Spacebar, it's very quiet.

I have the keyboard Andy posted, it originally came with my computer. But since I've got my Alienware, it's sitting lonely in the closet.

or a laptop-style keyboard for a desktop PC
The problem with a laptop style keyboard is that crumbs get under the keys if your eating over it. And even with a can of air, its hard to them out with pulling up the keys, making it hard to type. And if you try pressing forcefully on the keys, the crumb may slip and make a loud sound, or crushing them will make a loud sound.
EDIT: Hey Andy: Computer prank: Shut off the computer, pound on the spacebar (or leave your computer on and play cannon sounds by pounding the spacebar) until your neighbor below you yells, lock your door, turn off the lights, hold the power button on the computer and shut the monitor off (if you used number 2), and go to bed. (incase they come up)
