I have to say that one of the things I notice most is the use of Safari browser on the Lion DP2. It is so fast! There are not nearly so much hangs when loading pages that took an eternity on Snow Leopard safari. Rooting around a bit I see that Safari on Lion DP uses WebKit2 which could be the reason behind such speed improvements. I am aware though, that I did Lion DP 2 as a clean install this week and I don't have as many plugins downloaded at the moment so it could be just that. My Snow Leopard Safari has over time plugins for various sites I have visited. It an't be the bookmarks as I had them transferred through Mobileme.

Seems Safari is going on the right track, finally. Lion version has all features a modern browser must have, such as separate processes for tabs and graphics hardware acceleration. I can't understand why is still 5.1 and not 6.0, though.

It is true that safari always was a ridiculously slow browser. Let's see what this does to improve that...

The Windows version doesn't yet have separate processes per tab or does it? (Goes to confirm). Maybe it will for 5.1.

I don't think there is a 5.1 released for Windows just yet. In fact 5.1 is only available on Lion, there is none for Snow Leopard either.

It doesn't seem to crash as much as it did for me on Leopard and it does feel like things are loading up faster, but it's not always consistently faster (or I just don't notice at times). I actually like it better than FireFox and Opera.

Another bug I've found is after browsing for a while, it becomes impossible to type anywhere - you have to quit and restart Safari.

I would think that Lion will come with Safari 6. (An hopefull point of view).

I still don't understand why OS browsers (IE and Safari) don't have themes or allow you to customise them a little more...

I think it's so fast, because it is using even more ram than 5.0

@samg: The version number doesn't tell anything about new features. A 0.0.0.1 step can change morge than 1.0->2.0
(WINE and VLC for example)

I suppose, a version number is just a number, But it would be good is Apple did take a look at safari and make it a market leader (Apple fanboy coming out here) I was quite surprised about how MS made IE9 Beta a very public affair I mean they didn't do that when IE8 was released... And the Beta period was much longer, I mean I don't remember a IE7 or 8 Platform preview (there Might have been I was about 12 when they were launched Please correct me if I am wrong!)
