I found BetaArchive.com through old microsoftcollectionbook.com forum in 2010 Q2
I found it looking for the HL2 WC mappack leak of 2003. I didn't join for another year though xD

Found out about it on a news site. I think Windows 8 News. I tried other forums before but they had so many rude people and almost no rules so it was a terrible experiance. BA is great!

I was looking for the Half-Life 2 leaked map sources of 2003 (known as the WC mappack, a collection of map sources spanning the development of Half-Life 2). I'm pretty sure they're not actually on the FTP yet, but there was a thread in Game Betas which I found via Google which linked to a Megaupload download, if I remember right. In fact, I should really upload them to the FTP, but I'm not sure what category they'd go in.
So yeah, that was quite a while back, and I didn't make an account at the time. I just read the one thread about the WC mappack. Later on, I joined because a friend (the user 'Windows XP' on BetaArchive) told me the FTP resource was awesome. And, he's right. The FTP resource is awesome, the community is awesome, the help and support in all regions and eras of computing are awesome, and generally the site is awesome. So yeah, thanks Andy for making this site so awesome, and thanks to the whole community for helping him do that.

I heard from it before but I never registered, then the windows 8 leaks came and I waited for the forum to calm down again so I could explore the BA quality instead of all the rubbish posted by new members to get FTP acces and the evening before the 7989 leak I got acces to the server.

I found because of all the newsfeeds telling that Win8 got leaked unto the BetaArchive, so I got curious and ended up registering
Along with hundreds of others (I don't think it made it into the thousands).
