Windows 7 Ultimate.
So far I've only gotten a 2nd hand Dell Precision M60 laptop with Ubuntu. I reformatted the hard drive and install Vista Business on it because it has 2 Gb. of ram.

Put regular Windows 7 on it and then get VMWare/Virtual Box installed and run them virtually. It's a top of the range PC with full virtualisation enabled on it. Use it!

Wow thats nice! (drools) It wouldn't matter to me what case it was in if I got it as a gift. The case doesn't look to bad, its got some nice vents on the side.
You should definitely put Windows 7 64-bit on there. Im assuming it already has 4GB+ of RAM anyways. You could do some sweet emulating with that processor, Im sure it has virtualization.

Wow nice gift! (even though it's been 2 months already) I always wnted the best processor, but that won't happen any time soon.
Right now, I'm looking at the AMD Phenom II x6 1090t processor. Not as great as the i7 hex core but the benchmarks are equivalent to an i5 but this processor has 6 cores

There's Windows XP Professional x64 Edition as well to put.
I wouldn't put XP on anything modern.
Use at least Windows Vista SP2 x64 on here. Don't even think about anything older than Vista.
I wouldn't even use Vista but that's because of the experiences I had. Just stick with Windows 7. Especially if you can afford the i7 hexcore, no problem getting Windows 7.

I got a 1055T, fast and damn cheap with it. They're not as fast as the i5s/low i7s per core, but they're not far off, and the extra two cores pulls them into the lead where multiple cores are fully utilised. Plus they're not too averse to a little overclock, though the margin on the higher models is a little slim.

Heh nice specs. Due to Dell being disappointing, trying to sell their crappy backup software instead of giving me working Windows repair discs, I'll build my next computer, and it'll probably have Sandy Bridge.
